Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park

This is a national park that brings the gold rush of 1897 alive. Gold panning demonstrations, interactive exhibits, and a junior ranger program make this my fave "off the beaten path" spot for kids.
This is a tiny National Park! It's free, but has a wealth of info about the Gold Rush to Alaska, and how it put Seattle on the map. Just up the street, you'll also find SAM, the Seattle Art Museum. Admission price varies, but very worthwhile. You could spend all day there.
