They renovated 80 years old public bath into the unique Café in 2000. The Karahafu Gablefront roof, high lattice ceiling and Japanese style majolica tiles remind you that it was a bathhouse. Nishijin outlet is one of 6 chain cafes in Kyoto. They also sell used books in Nishijin location. You can enjoy nostalgic Art Deco with good cup of coffee.

Sarasa is the first restaurant to have opened inside a former public bath (sento). It is a great place with reasonably priced food for lunch and dinner. It is also at the heart of the Kuramaguchi street, a ancient street revitalized by new shops, and by the famous Funaoka onsen.

Sarasa Nishijin (さらさ西陣) is my favorite cafe & restaurant, or "sento cafe" (銭湯喫茶店" at Kuramaguchi street (鞍馬口通り) near the famous Funaoka Onsen bathhouse (船岡温泉). The building was originally used as a bathhouse but was transformed into a cafe. The interior is almost the same as the one for a bathhouse - you'll see blue tiles on the walls and even some remaining of plumbing. You can enjoy the sense of openness with its high ceilings. Music events are occasionally held as sound resonates so well with the structure and interior materials. There are many comics (manga books) for customers as well. Great destination to spend half a day or so if raining...
