These impressive soldiers represent the 19th-century war custom of Greece. These tall guards can be spotted at Syntagma square, Tomb of Unkown Soldier, and at Herodes Atticus street at the entrance of the Presidential Palace. They represent the modern Greece warriors who liberated the country from the Ottoman empire 200 years ago. These Greek Samurais, called Tsoliades, symbolize the Greek resistance and the victory of a small country against the world's most enormous empire back then. It is an immense pride to be one and the most excellent place to take a photo of them out of the crowds and heat is at the entrance of the presidential palace at Herodes Atticus avenue. I'm proud to say I was one of them during my mandatory service to the Greek army. Photo attached ☺️

The Evzones, or Evzoni is the name of several historical elite light infantry and mountain units of the Greek Army. Today, it refers to the members of the Presidential Guard (Proedrikí Frourá), an elite ceremonial unit that guards the Greek Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (Mnimeío tou Άgnostou Stratiόti), the Presidential Mansion and the gate of Evzones camp in Athens.

The Changing of the Guards in Athens Greece: Every Sunday morning at 11 am, people gather in Syntagma Square to watch the official changing of the guards, the military unit whose members stand proudly in perfect stillness in front of the Hellenic Parliament. There are of course changing every hour in the day, but on Sundays, it is the official ceremony with the official customs.
