In addition to helicopter flights there are small planes offering up great views of both the local area and over to Milford Sound. The airport is also home to the local skydiving company (currently not operating due to Covid).

Flight-seeing trips by helicopter and fixed wing aircraft to Milford Sound and Mount Cook depart from Glenorchy airport (Milford Sound is just 36 kilometres in a direct line from Glenorchy). The change in scenery over this area is phenomenal and if the weather is fine, it is one of the most spectacular excursions you will ever take. Because there are no landing fees at Glenorchy Airstrip, flight-seeing trips to Milford Sound can be more economical from Glenorchy than from Queenstown. Skydiving is also available.
