What does the village Tripiti in Milos have in common with The Vatican and Paris? The answer is that they all three have catacombs. That’s right. Milos has one of the most well preserved catacombs that can be found worldwide and they are considered as the third greatest pre-Christian structure of this kind. What makes these catacombs different and unique from others is that they consist of a complex of caves cut into the volcanic rock of the island, which makes them a peculiar yet fascinating sight.

The Catacombs of Milos, in Milos Island, dating from the 1st - 5th century, are among the three most important of the 74 discovered worldwide, together with the catacombs of Rome and the Holy Land. It is possible that the Catacombs of Milos are older than the ones of Rome.

Early-Christian burial and worshipping site. The most important early-Christian monument in all of Greece, and one of the 3 most important catacombs worldwide. Older than the catacombs of Rome. (Absolutely nothing to do with the stupid, totally irrelevant image supplied by Airbnb).
