West Kennet Long Barrow is about half a mile south of Silbury Hill (From Sussex Cottage; 13 minutes in the car, 20 minutes on the 49 Bus, with a 1 mile walk at the other end). The Long Barrow is a subterranean rectangular burial chamber enclosed by kerb-stones. The precise date of construction is unknown. Human bones were placed within the chamber, probably between 3670 and 3635 BC, representing a mixture of men, women, children and adults. It was used as a burial space, receiving both human and animal remains over a period of several centuries. Various flint tools and ceramic sherds were also placed within it during this time.

Wonderful chambered, prehistoric tomb. Great views from its position on the top of a hill. A very special place.
