The historic "Coal Heritage Trail" Elkhorn Inn was designed by the region's preeminent architect Alex Mahood and built in 1922 as the Empire Coal & Coke Co. Miner's Clubhouse. The art-filled Inn has been called "the gallery you can sleep in", and also has a Gift Shop and small "Museum Room" showcasing local coal mining and railroad artifacts and memorabilia.
