The cave was first found in 1901 by French travelers and called Grotte Des Surprises (The Cave of Surprises) in a travel book established in 1938. Being one of the widest and most special caves in Halong Bay, Sung Sot Cave is located in the center of the Bay, inside Bo Hon Island. Despite having a small gate, the cave amazed visitors with its giant inner space, which probably explains the surprising name. Inside the cave, there have thousands of stalactites and stalagmites along the 500-meter paved passage. Light posts line the passage and serve as signposts and ornaments, illuminating various hidden shapes. The artificial additions may not be to everyone’s taste, but the space is impressive nonetheless. Tips visit Sung Sot Cave - Don't forget to take pictures of Halong Bay at the mouth of the cave. - Stay close to your guide (if any), and pay attention when they switch shifts with other guides. - You can leave your stuff on the boat while you visit the cave. - Wear sensible shoes and bring your water as water sold at the cave entrance might be more expensive.

Nằm ở khu vực trung tâm của Di sản Thế giới vịnh Hạ Long, hang Sửng Sốt trong đảo Bồ Hòn. Đây là một hang rộng và đẹp vào bậc nhất của vịnh Hạ Long và đây cũng là nơi tập trung nhiều đảo đá có hình dáng đặc sắc không nơi nào có được. Đường lên hang Sửng Sốt luồn dưới những tán lá rừng, những bậc đá ghép cheo leo, du khách vừa có được cái thú của người leo núi, vừa có cái háo hức như đang đi lên trời. Hang được người Pháp phát hiện vào năm 1901 và đặt cho hang cái tên “Grotte des surprises” (hang động của sự sửng sốt).
