The steep track that takes you to the top of Mt Tauhara is a great adventure. The views from the top are spectacular and well worth the effort. After an initial steep slog through farmland the track traverses through native bush. I walked up with two of my kids when they were 6 & 8 years old and they thoroughly enjoyed it - especially all the mud! It took us about 1.5h to reach the top and about 45mins to come down. Be sure to go on a clear day and take plenty of water and chocolate!

A short, steep, winding trail up through the bush to the top of Mt Tauhara. Fabulous views and well worth the hike. Good footwear and level of fitness required! This will take you less than 2 hours to stroll to the top

1.5 Hike to the top with amazing views. Steep track in places good footwear is advisable. 10 mins drive from Taupo to Mountain Road off SH5 Napier-Taupo Highway

A fabulous climb for any fitness level. Take a picnic and water to enjoy the fabulous views of National Park Volcanic and lake views. Go early to watch the sunrise over the snow capped mountains

From this location on Mountain Road, off the Napier-Taupo Road, the climb starts of Mt Tauhara. Firstly steeply up farmland, then through regenerating bush, the 1.5hr walk follows a track up to the summit. Quicker coming down!
