Even if you're not traveling with kids, you'd do well to include a visit to the Northern Ontario Railroad Museum and Heritage Centre on your Sudbury itinerary. Situated a 30-minute drive north of the downtown core in the small community of Capreol, the museum has done a good job of preserving and showcasing the history of railroads in and around Greater Sudbury.

Then the Northern Ontario Railroad Museum and Heritage Centre is just the right place for you! Preserving and displaying everything about railroading in and around Sudbury, the museum is housed in a stunning Victorian-era home and showcases Sudbury’s long and rich railroad heritage as well as its lumber and mining industry. The museum also has on a one-of-a-kind display which includes an 1899 slag pot car and caboose and a 1919 Westinghouse Electric locomotive. Located in the railway town of Capreol, the museum is a must see destination for any history buff. Home to a unique collection of rail history, the collection is highlighted by retired CN steam locomotive #6077. The museum house, a former home belonging to the local railway superintendent, boasts an impressive collection of artifacts related to the lumber and mining industries. The museum's Heritage Centre, located in the town's former Fire Hall and Police Station sheds light on the regions social history.
