We’d love for your happy beach memories to be made here at our cottage by the sea, The Whimsy Whale. Our island cottage is perfectly placed under a canopy of magnificent live oaks, about 300 steps away from the ocean. Nestled on a quiet beach access street, central to all the best attractions, shopping and eateries on Oak Island; close to attractions in Southport. It is one of our favorite places to spend time together and we look forward to sharing it with you, your loved ones and friends.

Happy's Place Downtown Southport

This is my uncle Happy's place. It is in historic downtown Southport. Walking distance from restaurants, shopping, and the Cape Fear river. Located on a quaint alley just off the Main Street of town. This happy little cottage is nestled amongst large live oaks and in the shadow of Southport's iconic water tower. The home has one bedroom with a queen bed. The living area has a twin bed and two chairs. There is a full kitchen and small bathroom. Southport’s beautiful waterfront and parks await.

Enjoy this old-school cottage with knotty pine walls. Pet friendly. Deck seating, gorgeous sunrise/sunset views. Walk directly to beach. Half mile walk to pier. Spacious open living area. Large dining table for games and puzzles. 3 BR (2 full, 4 twin). 1 Full bath, one half bath. During season stay Sunday to Sunday, Sun to Thurs or Thurs to Sunday. Check in ANY DAY during the off season for as little as three days. Pets allowed with pet fee. Please provide your linens (sheets and towels)

The Historic Backdoor Cottage in Southport, NC

The charming Backdoor Cottage is located in the Historic District of Southport, NC. It's named the Backdoor Cottage because you park and enter through the backdoor into the living space. It is within walking distance of the whole Historic District including the waterfront, restaurants, shops, churches and art galleries. Much of the art work in the cottage was done by local artists. 1913 Historic Downtown Empie-Possion Cottage

The Empie-Possion Cottage is located in the heart of historic downtown Wilmington, NC. The cottage is three blocks from the water and a 10 minute walk to the heart of downtown. The Empie-Possion cottage was built in 1913 and is expertly restored. Have a drink on the screened in patio in the back or on the historic front porch. Come enjoy a stay where you can truly unwind. This one of the most unique homes you can stay in Downtown and you feel it’s charm the minute you step in the door.

A water lovers dream spot is here and waiting for you. Sit back and relax in this private, special waterfront space. Enjoy sunrises and sunsets while sitting waterfront: on the dock, porch and spacious studio cottage. Watch the bird life happen right before your eyes. Here you can immerse yourself in nature, or choose your recreation on the water - Kayak, paddle, fish. The large well appointed galley bathroom is fantastic. Do nothing or do it all; your vacation spot is awaiting.

Pinch of Peace, Dogs Welcome!

This is a custom built dog friendly family beach house on the quiet west side of Oak Island, a five minute drive or bike ride to the beach, and one block to the Intercostal Waterway. Artfully decorated, with a fully equipped kitchen, safely fenced back yard for dogs, screened back porch, super dog friendly beach, and a tiny house in back with more sleeping capacity; this house is a place for beach lovers who appreciate comfort and art and want their pooches along with them.

Waterside Cottage 'HoriZen'

This is a recently renovated rustic 1947 cottage with an outstanding view of and access to the Intracoastal Waterway. It is perfect for meditation or quiet time by the water's edge, or for fishing, art, reading, writing, kayaking or paddleboarding. It is close to Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach, Topsail Island and Hampstead where there is shopping, restaurants, outdoor and cultural activities and beautiful beaches. It's old, but it is full of charm!
