This is a flash food court, built in the old stables of the Smith and Caughey building. So many great choices. Great for groups as you don't have to agree on a place. Aucklanders love this as a place to meet for a meal before a show. i particularly recommend the jerk chicken from Bonz Cajun.

Our closest volcano to walk around. There are several paths over and around it. Great views all around the city. Big King is also a dog exercise areas, so you get to see lots of happy dogs out exploring.

This is my favourite inner city beach. I love it because it's the closest ocean beach, so there is the possibility of waves (though never huge ones). It is a patrolled beach, so you can swim between the flags under the gaze of Surf Lifesaving patrol. There are public changing rooms, with toilets and cold showers. There are plenty of Pohutakawa trees lining the long beach, so you can choose between sun and shade. It's also a nice long beach if you want to walk it. Afterwards Takapuna township has plenty of places to get an ice cream, drink or meal.

There are plenty of Pohutakawa trees lining the long beach, so you can choose between sun and shade. It's also a nice long beach if you want to walk it. Afterwards Takapuna township has plenty of places to get an ice cream, drink or meal.

Auckland's main War memorial is also our Museum. Great permanent and limited times exhibitions. The museum is in the centre of the Auckland Domain, a wonderful park area, great for walking, jogging, picnics, sports, duck ponds and the wonderful Wintergarden. There is also a cafe in the museum and tea rooms in the domain. The current Volume exhibition - a history of NZ Music is a must see.

Local arthouse cinema. It's a beautiful small theatre with great ice cream. Also it's right in the middle of the "Chinatown" areas of restaurants, so you have the makings of a cheap and cheerful night out.

The front row of the tiny one has lazy-boy reclining seats. Be early as there is no reserved seating. Key times though it pays to book - you can do this by phone by leaving a message on the answerphone.

Drinks & Nightlife
Large amounts of Auckland was dry until only about 20 years ago, so as a result there are many suburbs without local pubs, which is common in other NZ cities. This is our closest local pub, it is up in the Three Kings Plaza Strip Mall. There is the Brass Boxer Sports bar which adjoins the Copper Thief bar and restaurant. It's reasonable, not amazing, but if you want something nice and close, this is the one.
