Silver Spring is unique for it's Ethiopian community, rivaled only in NYC and LA. There are several restaurants and cafes featuring variations on Ethiopian fare and the patrons and proprietors are warm and friendly. We are told Addis has the most authentic atmosphere. If you're curious or already a fan, now's your chance, the cuisine is very flavorful and on the spicy side.

Owned by DC restauranteur and chef, Jeff Black, Republic, is one of our nicest nearby restaurants. If you're an oyster fan, you'll love the oyster bar and the HH draws a lively crowd, too. It's hard to beat an Apperol and Prosecco cocktail on a summer evening but there are micro brews too. The mussels are amazing as are the salads and everything I've tried. This is not subtle food, go here for full flavor and a creative menu.

If you appreciate high quality meat, Urban Butcher is a nose–tail butchery and restaurant serving dry-aged beef, renowned craft charcuterie and everything between. It's not easy on the purse but it's likely to be a meal you won't soon forget.

The Atlantic Ocean is nearly 3 hours away but within an hour you can take in the Chesapeake Bay and Annapolis, a world class sailing capital (and Maryland's State Capital). There is no way to get there by transit but if you have a car and the weather is pleasant it's worth a side trip. Or let us know if you're interested and we can try to put together a trip with you. On the other side of the magnificent "Bay" bridge, we keep a 36' sailboat where we spend most weekends from late spring to early fall. Join us!
