Parks & Nature
QE Park has the last area of natural dunes on the Kapiti Coast, Many recreation facilities were developed in the 1950s and 1960s, including the campground and Wellington Tramway Museum.
The park is bordered by Paekakariki and Raumati South. The tangata whenua of the park are Ngati Haumia, a hapu of the Ngāti Toa iwi and Te Atiawa ki Whakarongotai.
The Paekakariki entry to the park is 2 minutes walk from the cottage. Lovely for picnics and recreational activities. A coastal walkway and an inland walkway run the length of Queen Elizabeth Park from Raumati South to Paekakariki. Near the main entrance, a loop walkway leads through a wetland area and bush remnant with mature kahikatea.

Queen Elizabeth Park

Whareroa Farm is a recreation reserve offering walking, picnicking, biking, and horse-riding, with links to the adjoining Akatarawa Forest and Queen Elizabeth Park across SH1
Whareroa is a successful example of land being managed for conservation, recreation and farming. Native forest remnants, streams and wetland areas are being restored by volunteers led by the Whareroa Guardians.

The museum's collection includes Marlene Dietrich's Cadillac cabriolet, a 1915 Stutz Indianapolis race car, gull-winged Mercedes-Benz, a 1950 Cadillac "gangster special" that belonged to gangster Mickey Cohen, and an 1895 Benz Velo, imported to New Zealand in 1900.
A DeLorean DMC-12, the car best known from the Back To The Future movie series, is also on display.
