The iconic harbour is well worth a look. Porthcawl was once the largest exporter of coal in the world with a huge harbour. It's only about a third as big now but has two lighthouses. Huge waves crash over it in winter and it's regularly featured on weather reports whenever big storms lash the UK coast.
During the summer months there's a weekly free fireworks display put on by the Hi-Tide every Tuesday night.
