Sun, sea and tradition are the perfect cocktail for those who want a relaxing holiday. Massa Lubrense is the ideal destination, rich in history and flavors. Touched by the sea for about 20 km by the Gulf of Naples and the Gulf of Salerno, Massa Lubrense offers beaches and pristine bays on both sides. The coast is protected by the institution of the Marine Protected Area of Punta Campanella and, from 2008 to today, Massa Lubrense has got every year the prestigious Bandiera Blu (=Blue Flag) award, thanks to its crystal clear waters. Massa Lubrense is a natural oasis with lots of walking among ancient farmhouses, archaeological areas, towers, Mediterranean vegetation and breathtaking views. More than 100 km of trails run through the whole territory, touching all its 18 hamlets and the most pristine places. All trails are marked and reported in special maps that you can download here or pick up at our office. Typical products from Massa Lubrense are primarily oil and lemon. On the whole area you can see long stretches of olive and lemon groves, giving an intense scent to this country. The festival of lemon takes place during the summer in Massa Centro, giving the opportunity to taste local products made from lemon. Massa Lubrense has a strategic geographical position: between Capri, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast, is the perfect starting point for those who want to visit the surrounding area. Sorrento is only 5 km away; daily ferries to the islands and the Amalfi Coast; trains and buses to all destinations of interest. The 18 little hamlets – with their nature, history and architecture – make Massa Lubrense an interesting territory to be discovered, where time seems to have stopped. Surrounded by greenery, the hamlets are linked both by roads and alleys and by internal paths, marked and easy to follow.

Located in the southern part of Italy on the picturesque Amalfi Coast, the town of Sorrento is very small in size, but big on culture. Tourists can travel to Sorrento on land by way of Naples or Pompeii, or by ferry. The ferry also connects Sorrento to Capri, Ischia, Amalfi, Positano and Naples. Sorrento is located over the Bay of Naples and is a popular destination for travel. Many people travel to Sorrento throughout the year to eat, relax and see the lovely sights that Italy has to offer. WHEN TO GO: The best time to travel to Sorrento is between the months of April and October. There is little precipitation. Visit Sorrento in warm weather to see the lemons growing and the ripe olive vines. DON'T MISS: Admiring the trompe l’oeil frescoes at Sedil Dominova, a domed 15th-century building that was once a meeting place for nobles. Picking up a bottle of locally made limoncello—a sweet, Italian lemon liqueur—and other local artisanal products at Piemme. Watching artisans craft music boxes and elaborate inlaid tables at various workshops on Via San Nicola. (Often, you can purchase products directly from craftsmen.)

Beaches

Marina di Puolo marks the beginning of the Lubrense coast, it is situated halfway between Sorrento and Massa Lubrense and a small extent of it belongs to the Municipality of Sorrento. Its name comes from the Roman Pollio Felice, a distinguished member of a noble family of Pozzuoli and owner of a villa whose ruins are still visible nearby, in the locality Calcarella. The small village consists mainly of fishermen’s houses. The beach is made of pebbles and sand, there are free areas and several bathing establishments, bars and restaurants, with tables directly on the beach. The beach offers rental pedal boats, charter boats, etc. The first beach of Marina di Puolo is pebbly and with bathing establishment, going forward there is a free beach with sand, then a wide cemented space used as a “solarium” where you can rent chairs and umbrellas. In the water in front of the solarium fishermen moor their boats. Finally, after a long cliff called “Muraglione” there is another small beach predominantly made of pebbles; here the sea is generally clean and the water cool. The other Puolo beach, known as “Cala di Puolo” was until the sixties a quarry for gravel extraction. The bay is accessible from the provincial road Sorrento-Massa, through a toll road that runs through what was once the property of the Commander Achille Lauro. Currently, the square of the quarry has become a huge parking lot, serving a bathing beach, with sun terrace and bar-restaurant. How to reach Puolo: The village of Puolo is easily accessible by car, along the road that leads from Sorrento to Massa Lubrense and then onto Via Marina di Puolo. At the end of this road there is a paid parking; to get to the Marina di Puolo non-residents have to walk down from here. Public Transport Both SITA and EAV buses run along the road between Sorrento and Massa Lubrense, in both directions. The bus stop is at the intersection with Via Marina di Puolo, from here you can walk down for about 10 minutes.

Cala di Mitigliano is the right place to go if you want to enjoy a relaxing moment on the beach in a breathtaking landscape. You can reach Cala di Mitigliano on foot or by car from the village of Termini. From the little square, piazza Santa Croce, take Via Campanella; after about 200 meters there is a fork in the road: the road to the right leads to Monte San Costanzo, the left one to Punta Campanella and, before, to Cala di Mitigliano. After few meters, take the steep footpath that branches off to the left; walking on this path you will admire the Church of Santa Maria di Mitigliano, built on the rests of an old abbey. After about 30 minutes you will reach the beach of Cala di Mitigliano. If you prefer to go by car, follow the street Via Campanella and turn to the right at the second branch: this is a private street ending in a small parking, between olive trees and Mediterranean maquis. From this point, there is only a short walk until the beach. Cala di Mitigliano is a cave enclosed by high perpendicular rocks. The most impressive thing of this place is the clear water and the fantastic landscape, with a viewpoint on Capri and Punta Campanella. The beach of Mitigliano is a pebble beach, here you can find different sized stones and rocks. On the right side of the beach, there is an ancient circular building, similar to a tower. In the past this building was used for the production of lime, it now seems to be there to remind the time when the cave was active. Along the coast you will see a circular grotto with a diameter of 5/6 meters, on a seabed of about 15 meters. The grotto is a paradise for snorkeling lovers, but is possible to enter it only if the sea is quite and the tide is low.
