This is a very nice Chefs hatted restaurant in the Main Street of Paynesville. It’s just a short 3-5 min walk to hop on on the ferry and across to Paynesville . The food is delicious, enjoy a few wines, and catch the ferry back. Don’t forget it’s free for foot passengers. Bookings are essential and you will want to make them in advance. (Easy via their website) (There is a lovely outside deck undercover too)

The best local seafood straight off the trawlers in lakes entrance. Personally I love the prawns but it’s all good and so very very fresh.

Places to see
There are koalas all over RI (their population outnumbers humans!) its a lovely walk, just look up and take your time. Plenty of koalas to be seen living in their native gum trees. I never cease to be amazed how beautiful they are. The walk is really well signed, it’s not long or arduous at all. Suits all abilities and ages. Don’t feel like walking? Check out the bike hire recommendation! Not surprisingly this is one of the number one destinations in East Gippsland. If you do have a dog it’s essential that your dog is on a leash.

About 30 mins to drive here, it’s gorgeous and quaint. Boat hire, walks and several shops. The Metung pub is great and great outdoor dining options and makes for a great day out. If you bought your boat you can just cruise over from Raymond Island and moor up out the front of the pub. Fabulous

The only way on and off the island is by ferry. This is part of Raymond Islands charm. The good news is It’s free to use as foot passengers (you pay for cars) so once you are on the island you can use the ferry to go into Paynesville and explore there too. The ferry runs from 6am until midnight just check the timetable. It’s a 5 min gentle walk from the house. Currently you must wear a face mask on the ferry.

Gravelly Beach or Gravelly Point is a safe shallow beach that is accessible by either boat or car, there are no services or facilities at this location, all visitors must bring in and take out all supplies. A visit to Gravelly Beach on a calm sunny day will reward visitors with a picturesque beach with safe swimming. Dogs are also welcome however must be kept under control as Raymond Island and the region are home to abundant wildlife including a resident Koala population.

If you are staying for a few days drop in here as it has all of the east Gippsland tourist info! It’s in the Main Street of Bairnsdale next to Maccas so you won’t miss it! I have just listed the things I have enjoyed doing, there is so much you can do if you want to.

If you want an adventure this is fantastic fun! It’s not cheap but it’s worth the money. Learn to drive the Segway and then you go down onto the beach and ride along the shore. I’d recommend doing it at low tide (harder sand). Kids get it really quickly (our kids aged 12 and 15 loved it!) Top tips, wear runners, comfy clothing, don’t carry loose stuff (you might lose it) they will provide bags for you to use. I thought the instructors were lovely. You don’t need to be super fit or anything, just not afraid to give it a go. I loved it!! You will need to book in advance https://www.lakesentrancesegway.com.au/

A few shops, cafes and good places to eat, local beaches, good swimming and all round fun!

Boating!

Obviously this is the lakes area so bring your boat (plenty of room to leave it out the front on the house) there are several boat ramps to launch from. The lake is also great for Kayaking or SUP if you have them too. The house is a 2-3 min stroll to the water to launch your kayak or SUP safely.
Wat je moet meenemen

Bring your bathers and beach towels

Pack the bathers and beach towels with so many beaches including surf beaches at Lakes entrance to explore as well as the very safe lake beaches and coves.... and don’t forget the sun block!!
