Lampasas area wineries

Award winning wineries are popping up all over the state, and Lampasas county, which sits at the northern gateway to the Texas Hill Country, is no exception! We are home to 4 wonderful wineries and several private vineyards... and the numbers are growing! We have featured out local faves. Below are a few more that lie within an hour (or so) of Maravilloso! Perissos Torre Na Lochs Wedding Oak Scary Man Cellars Red Wing Dove Red Caboose
Friends and mentors, SuLynn and Bill Bledsoe are wonderful hosts to their friendly and accommodating winery serving wonderful award winning Texas and Estate wines. Let us take you there on an area winery tour. Extra fees apply.

Fiesta Winery's home base and vineyards are actually in Lampasas county! With tasting rooms across the state, they are really making a name for themselves! (we still prefer the original location :-) Sitting on the Baxter's Ranch which backs up the the Colorado River, the winery and vineyards are an impressive sight! In business for several years now, they continue to gain recognition as an award winning winery. They offer a delightful menu of food to complement their wines. This winery is a must, especially if you prefer sweet wines, which has been their specialty since they began. (they do also carry dry wines though...!) Let us take you there with our own private tour bus available only to our guests. We will be your designated driver! (extra fees apply)

things to do in Lampasas

The city of Lampasas is the seat of Lampasas County and has one of the prettiest restored courthouses I have seen. It sits in the center of a cute courthouse square complete with a bandstand that is used for concerts at different times of the year! Lampasas is also the home to one of the only Spring Fed pools in the state AND is only about 30 minutes from Colorado Bend State Park! If you are looking for outdoor or indoor activities- see our recommendations below.
Still so beautiful inside and out. A great spot for photos!

Texas has three natural spring fed pools- one is in Austin, one is in Balmorrhea and one is in Lampasas! It is nice and chilly even during the summer heat- but make note that it is a sulpher spring! In fact, it was the centerpiece of the old bath houses that sat on its banks back in the days of the wild west when Lampasas was the last stop on the railroad heading west! The park also has an 18 hole municipal golf course as well as a small playground and a large covered picnic area that can be rented in advance by calling the city.

While not actually IN Lampasas, it is only about 30 minutes away and you have to go through Lampasas to get there (pretty much)...so we will take some credit for it... :=) Super fun, quiet, pretty and relatively secluded State park on the Colorado river. camping, swimming and picnic areas. they even have private cave tours if you are into that! It really is a must do.

Well, what to say about Spring Ho. (no, not that ho...!!) I have heard that the name was derived from a sort of "tally ho" sort of way...and that Spring refers to the natural springs that are all over this area, which I'm sure was quite a thing back in the hot summers of the wild west. So, the festival runs the entire week AFTER the week of July 4. From Monday- the following Sunday there are shows, kids activities, parades, booths for shopping, BBQ cookoff, street dances- fun for the whole family! Pretty much everyone comes home for Spring Ho! Book your room soon, everything fills up.

I have never been really, but I pass it on the way to the wineries all the time. It looks pretty nice and the website says it has outdoor basketball courts, playground, restrooms, soccer fields, softball fields and a walking trail.

my favorite restaurants

We have lots of good eateries, but in the interest of sharing with you, I am going to just mention my faves...because I am picky. That doesn't mean that there aren't a few others worthy though... ***i can only add recommendations to establishments that airbnb can find online. Our fave Mexican restaurant is a tiny place called Memo's. It is next to Tractor Supply. Full bar. good food, open for breakfast! there are two others in town, but we like this one.
Authentic German food right on the town square! Really, I have loved everything on the menu....If you are vegetarian they have a couple of salads and a veggie sandwich. If you don't like German food but want the cafe vibe, try one of their delicious hamburgers! oh, and their house salad dressing is divine...don't miss dipping it on their sourdough bread....o...m..g.... If you go, tell Eve, or her son Marc that Andy and Julie sent you! ps- they do have wine, and German beers on tap.

Good Cajun food, (mostly fried)...but hits the spot when you are in the mood. They do have great crawfish I have heard when in season. We like to go there because they have a large patio where they regularly host live music. Mostly country and cajun with some sprinklings of folk. Most shows are free, some have a cover. If it is a good show it will get crowded best get there early.

They have the basics of anything you need for your alcohol beverages plus a fairly decent wine display with some local wines. Between Stoney's and HEB we can get most of what we want. Stoney's is across the street from HEB and has a drive through too... there is also a beer barn and they are also good....we just go to Stoney's because it is closer. The beer barn is close to Hancock Park entrance.

shopping/antiquing

We have HEB for groceries and we have Walmart if needed. The first recommendation on the list is our store we are set to open this summer sometime. STay tuned! Since we aren't official, it won't let me add to the list- it is called Wool and Vine. Art, homestead, art to table, free range art, handmade goods, local goods, gifts, things made of wool, plants, and maybe even a wine bar in the works! It will be inside My Girls building (see deets below) dang it, Marigolds and antiques isn't on the list either. it is our friend Barbara's place. it is on 190e going towards Copperas Cove on the right as you leave Lampasas. and Gillen's mercantile isn't online either. it is right next to Eve's cafe on the square. it is a new biz owned by a friend of ours and guitar extraordinaire, Derek Groves and his family. They also have music lessons upstairs.
My Girls on the Square, is home to a clothing boutique, gift shop, antiques, Yumm Again cafe and our future store Wool and Vine. A little bit of something for everyone! Tell Todd and Nona Jane that Julie and Andy sent you
