While staying in Ballard, there are a few must-see visits you should include!
When you arrive at Ray's they will valet your car - not expensive. When you enter, head immediately upstairs and request an outdoor table to watch the boats go by - they will bring you a blanket if you like. Happy hour's are busy but fun.

Golden Gardens is super close and has a really nice beach. Fires allowed in the pits. Parking can be a chore but there is always a space.

You might hear that fish and chips are best at a local chain. THE BEST black cod fish and chips is at Lockspot Cafe, only 2 minutes from the house. If you are checking out the locks, this is right at the entrance. Instead of eating inside, we just go to the pickup window and take your meal to the locks.

If you are checking out the locks, this is right at the entrance. Instead of eating inside, we just go to the pickup window and take your meal to the locks.
You must visit the locks! When you do, also check out the rose garden and the Arboretum on site. If the weather is nice, sit on the grass and watch the boats go by. Don't miss the fish ladder - take a moment outside by the viewing area to look for HUGE salmon waiting to enter the locks, and sometimes the seal's looking for easy lunch. Inside the viewing area, I recommend at least 15 minutes of observation. Also, check out the gestation display for the fry. Take time to watch a complete cycle of the small lock over about 30mins. Fascinating, especially considering there are no pumps moving the water!
