Eating The Greedy Goat's sweetcorn and zucchini fritters with bacon, tomato, avocado and sweet chilli salsa could set you back an entire week in loving memory. The food here is utterly delicious, beautifully presented and made with a masterful hand. The breakfast and lunch menus are packed with classics, from spicy white bean and chorizo hotpot to beer-battered flathead fillets with homemade tartare. Summer sees the Goat open for romantic blackboard-menu dinners that bust the Everyday Eats budget, with tealight candles enhancing the rustic, boatshed vibe. Clever picnic packs (order in advance) are also available.

Drinks & Nightlife

When Justin Hemmes bought the old Newport Arms for a reported $50 million, he virtually installed an open-air food festival in Australia's largest waterfront beer garden. Open in late summer, the place went ballistic; busy on weekdays, hectic at night, rammed at weekends. Cue queues for the pizzeria, burger shack, seafood shed, juice bar and craft beer bar.
