Food Scene

Featured in National Post Travel, as a "sophisticated and ambitious eatery" it describes itself as "upmarket bistro-style menu with brunch, fresh seafood, wines & cocktails in a cozy atmosphere". The menu is unbelievably creative, made of local ingredients and will tease the senses even of a most sophisticated of foodies! As one of the reviewers on Google described it: "Mouth Orgasm!"... pardon the language, but it's true :) "Cheddar Perogies" and "Crab Cakes" were exceptionally good and "Key Lime Pie" for dessert is a must! Keep in mind that there is often a line-up to get in, so staying at our house provides additional advantage as it's just across the street.

When you wake up in the morning, treat yourself with a cup of coffee with croissant at LF french bakery. This is the best way to start your day after travelling! The bread and pastries are all baked fresh and taste delicious! Our all time favourite is Baguette Parisienne! I could eat 3 of them at a time if I didn't have to watch my weight! But seriously, this is by far the best bakery in Halifax, so don't miss it!

When you get tired of fresh croissants at LF Bakery (if ever!), check out this cozy place. Coffee, nice selection of house made pastries, sandwiches, wraps, soups and salads and for later in the day local craft beer and wine. Great spot for hanging out on a rainy day with friends or get intimate with your laptop with a mug of freshly brewed coffee and a muffin.

Drinks & Nightlife

Best craft microbrewery in Halifax, hands down! Among many, I must admit, because, if you like local craft beer same as I do, you are in a right town, my friend! After moving to Halifax, I completely stopped drinking European brands. Czech or German? No, thank you. Give me Propeller anytime instead! Serious drinkers (like me) rent their growlers and just come for a refill :) But to try it out, first come to their tasting room and get a flight set. Then pick your favourite beer and fill the growler. Come for a refill as much as your legs can carry you, luckily our house is just a few meters away! Yes, and they even have great Root Beer and Ginger Beer for kids as well!

Legendary live music venue in Halifax. Used to be located in downtown at Argyle St for decades and two years back moved to Gottingen. Featuring local bands of all types, DJs, retro nights, 90s nights, pop, funk, reggae, rock, metal and everything and anything in between. Be sure to check their calendar for Mellotones. These guys are a local legend, play mostly R&B and funk covers and are really really good. Their brass section is something remarkable and the vocalist plays saxophone as well. Every time we see them, we have amazing fun!

"I have a pen... I have an apple...", remember that song by a very cringy Asian guy? Well, Nova Scotia has apples... and lots of them. Some Ontario people we knew told us that Nova Scotian apples are the best in Canada, which is such a compliment! Actually, everything that is not about lobsters and lighthouses in Nova Scotia I take as a double compliment. I'm sure they talked about Ambrosia from Annapolis Valley, which is, beyond doubt, the best apples I ever tasted. But guess what? Now you can take all Nova Scotian apples you want in liquid form at Chain Yard Urban Cidery! It has amazing vibe and best ciders for you to try! Try also Coconut Curry Spice Krispies. They are delicious!

Entertainment & Activities

Built for Canada Games, it meant to be destroyed right after if Halifax people hadn't rebelled against it. I remember signing petition for "keeping the Oval". Now it's favourite winter activity for Haligonians to enjoy where you can take your skates (or rent them) and enjoy either calming romantic rounds holding hands with your significant other or just making loops all alone in a jolly crowd. Music! Lights! Frost-bitten cheeks and happy people! Think Rideau Canal in Ottawa with it's ends connected in a loop. That's our Oval! In the summer you can rent rollerblades, bikes, scooters and even plasma cars! It's 5 min walk from our house, so you can check it out before committing to anything.
