Organized since 2006, Chiang Mai Walking Street is a Sunday evening walking street at the Three Kings Monument Courtyard. This thriving Sunday evening market covers nearly the whole of Rachadamnoen road (the main road of the old city), many of its side streets and the square in front of Tha Phae Gate. It is famed for the locally made handicrafts that are made from a wide variety of materials such as silk, fabric, ceramic, metal, glass, wood and etc. In addition, Chiang Mai also organizes a Saturday Evening Walking Street on Wua Lai road which runs from Chiang Mai gate, on the south side of the old city, towards the airport. Both Thai and foreign tourists are enjoy walking and shopping here.

Getting Around

Chiang Mai Bus Terminal (Arcade Bus Terminal)Around the station, there are many public transportation points. On the left hand side of the station, you can see Tuk-Tuk drivers who are waiting for customer. The starting price is 100 baht. If you go further such as CMU or Chiang Mai Airport, it may cost you to 200 baht. Next to the Tuk-Tuk drivers, the Red Car has different offers for passengers. On the normal route, the car will start here and leave to Waroros Market, Thapae Gate, Chiang Mai Gate, Suandok and finally stops at Changpuek Bus Station. The fare charges you 20 baht per person. However, you will have to wait until the cab is full of passengers. Additionally, if you don’t want to waste your time, you can ask the driver to deliver you to your destination, for example Chiang Mai Airport for 50 baht per person or Chiang Mai University for 50 baht per person. Need a tour guide? The red cab can be your tour guide, charging at least 300 baht a day. For the most convenience, taking a Chiang Mai Taxi is another alternative choice. The starting price is 150 baht. Sending you to at your door can cause you more than 300 baht. Tips You can park at the Chiang Mai Bus Station parking. The price is 10 baht a day for motorcycle and 40 baht a day for car. Wi-Fi is provided at Vanussanun Shop at the ground floor.

The temple, which is also known as “The Monastery of the Lion Buddha” or “The temple of the Lion Buddha” is an active temple, with hundreds of monks and novices living there. The Wat Phra Singh houses a number of highly revered and very old Buddha images. The Wat Phra Singh dates back to the 14th century when Chiang Mai was the capital of the Lanna Kingdom, and is one of the finest examples of classic Lanna style temple architecture in Northern Thailand. The structures of the Wat Phra Singh The temple grounds contain a number of classic Lanna style buildings. Main Chedi The oldest structure of the wat is the main chedi, that was built in 1345 by King Pha Yu to enshrine the ashes of his father. The chedi is circular in shape with a square base. Each of the sides of the chedi is decorated with elephant figures emerging from the chedi. Since its construction in the 14th century it has been enlarged considerably.
