Kildare, Japanese Gardens station
Managed by the Irish National Stud which is next door, the Japanese gardens were laid out for a wealthy Scot by a Japanese master just before World War 1. A beautiful peaceful place that traces the journey of a soul from oblivion to eternity.
One good way to see the wild scenery of the Wicklow and Dublin mountains is to drive along the Military Road. Drive carefully on the narrow winding roads.

The Séamus Heaney Walk in the Devil's Glen is about 4km from Ashford on the road to Glendalough. It is about 4km of moderately difficult, rough walking with steep sections. It honours the winner of the Nobel prize for Literature who lived in the area from 1972 to 1976 and later owned a family summer cottage in nearby Glanmore. He called it his "hedge school". The playwright John Millington Synge spent his summers in Glanmore Castle. The Glen inspired Heaney when he wrote the Glanmore Sonnets. Don't miss the unique collection of contemporary "Sculpture in Woodland" by Irish and international artists.

It looks higher than its 501 metres because of its shape and is a great vista point from where to see the whole Dublin area and on clear days, the Mountains of Mourne in Northern Ireland and Snowdonia across the Irish Sea in north Wales. You can't miss it as you drive down the N11 from Dublin. As you hike up, it becomes quite steep with slippery shale nearer the peak. But its not too strenuous a climb. Follow the small road from the entrance to the Glenview Hotel just off the N11 until you find the access car park.

A short hill climb to reach the cross on the summit of Bray Head from which there are great views in all directions. Not too arduous a short climb. A great place from which to watch the annual Bray Airshow.
