Sightseeing

The bustling market was first mentioned in records in the 1200s. There are some 28 permanent stalls and it's open 7 days a week, 10am – 5pm. Taste delicious street foods from around the world, plus traditional market stall holders including a florist, fishmonger and greengrocers and an artisan bakery. Live music too, sometimes.

Huge and lovely historic royal palace, given to King Henry VIII by Cardinal Wolsey in 1529, beautifully kept with lots of paintings and historic tapestries. Amazing series of throne rooms with details of who could get into which. Lovely gardens, maze and often a flower show and big concerts.

Parks and walks

Stunning Richmond Park is 1.7km away (walking to Kingston Gate of the park). It has amazing walks, beautiful woods, and several herds of deer (warning don't go too close, especially when there are babies). It was first enclosed in 1637 and covers 2,500 acres. Free to access. Our favourite is the view to St Paul's Cathedral, 12 miles away, from a special spot on King Henry's Mound (with telescope).

This is a lovely 5.5km walk along the river, starting to the left after you cross Kingston Bridge and ending up at Hampton Court Palace. You can take a boat back if you check out times and prices first. If you turn to the right you get into the little known Home Park public park with Long Water and lovely views of Hampton Court Palace (but no access), and a golf course.

Theatre and arts

Top quality theatre located in Kingston, walking distance from Minerva Apartments. Shallow thrust stage design, like the Elizabethan Rose Theatre where Shakespeare and Marlowe plays, with addition of roof and modern seats. Check top-quality shows.
