Great cup of coffee and fantastic locally owned bakery. They have discontinued indoor sit down eating during the pandemic but great to grab and go or, if the weather is nice, to sit outside. Yo won’t find a better bakery in Alaska except maybe at their two other locations in Anchorage—one downtown and the other on the East Side in Airport Heights.

This is the most touristy and at the same time, favorite local breakfast spot. You can’t go wrong if you are a vegetarian or meat lover. They have something healthy or something naughty! Great ambience and fantastic service. They take great care of their employees and most have been serving here for many years.

Owned by the same folks who own Snow City Cafe. Slightly different menu and less touristy but always crowded with locals. Fresher ambience than downtown and always great service. Perfect location to grab breakfast on your way to Girdwood or the Kenai Peninsula.

This is my favorite local restaurant but also, very touristy in the summers. Vegetarian menu rocks but they have fantastic meats and usually, seafood. The ambience is what kills it—wonderful art by local artist and family friend, Megan Gerety. Make sure to get here when it opens in the afternoon—pair it with a hike on Winner Creek Trail. No reservations and best to eat inside if you can!

Love this place—great Nepalese food. I love the Malai Kofta. Amazing. Ambience is fine and the service is variable. But the food is worth it. Make a reservation if you don’t want to wait.

Yes it is in a strip mall right near the Brentwood neighborhood. Don’t let that fool you! This is one of the best fine dining experiences in Anchorage. It would be the best but their is no view to be had. For fantastic haute cuisine, this is the place. You can walk there from our house and you won’t be disappointed. Expensive but worth every penny!

Downtown, if you can make a reservation, go for it. But do it on a night when you are sure to see a beautiful sunset so that you can see Mount Susitna(“The Sleeping Lady” come alive with light!). If you don’t make a reservation, grab a bar seat near the window. Great place to stop before or after dinner elsewhere. Mostly for the meat and seafood lover!

Old time Anchorage at it’s finest. Best lunch burger(made from sirloin cuts) for best price. I love the French Onion Soup. Surf and turf will rock your world. This is a union restaurant where everyone is paid a fair wage and has health insurance. Great people and wonderful old bar! You can’t go wrong with this gem.

A 5-7 minute walk from our Brentwood home to a wonderful cup of coffee and neighborhood hangout, vibe. Decent pastries. Kaladi Bros. Coffee places are all over Anchorage and I remember when they started out in the 80’s —before Starbucks was a thing. It’s our own Alaskan version of the best coffee house! Give it a try.
