City/town information
Lakeport is the county seat of Lake County. It sits on the shore of Clear Lake - the largest natural freshwater lake entirely in California. It is also deemed the oldest lake in North America. In 2020, it was voted the best bass fishery in the USA by Bassmaster Magazine. The primary geographic feature viewed in the center of the lake is Mount Konocti - a series of seven volcanic plumes left over after its eruption some 2 million years ago. The volcanic soils and elevations surrounding the lake have created numerous wine growing appellations and now Lake County is home to over 30 wineries - many with award winning products.
