Check out Spencer, 3 miles north of the house for shopping, restaurants and the Robey Theatre - the oldest continually operating movie theater in the United States. The Chestnut Ridge winery is a hidden gem at the top of the city, and Charles Fork Lake offers fishing, hiking and mountain biking opportunities.
Ben's Run hiking trail (behind the city pool) is the adventurous way to reach the winery. Another trail (behind Walmart) leads to a Civil War cemetery with a great view of the city.
