The Italian food is great, and it's a treat to sit on the balcony overlooking the river etc. A little piece of Melnbourne.

A bit like La Camera, but contemporary menu, and I find it cheaper. The view is just as good from the balcony too

I have had so many great experiences along the river over the years. Every time I go there, I usually try a different restaurant, and have a great night. The service in some of them is incredible.

Go for a wander through the CBD at any time of day, but later in the afternoon or in the evening you will get to enjoy some great bars and enjoy Melbourne hospitality at it's finest. Don't ignore the laneways. They have some great spots.
If you just want to do some shopping during the day, explore the area between Flinders Lane and La Trobe St, and between Elizabeth St and Swanston Street.

You get a good feel for the city, and where everything is. You can do the Skydeck with the glass bottom floor, but I don't think it is a must by any means.

The displays change often, and they are always interesting from an historical point of view. The building itself is also very intriguing, considering how it was designed and built.

Port Melbourne is only a short tram ride away. Wander along Southbank Promenade to Clarendon St, where the bridge is at the end of the casino, and jump on the 109 tram heading away from the city. Alternatively, you can board the 109 from anywhere in Collins St in the city.
You can easily spend a day here, looking at the huge cruise liners that arrive at Station Pier, wander past this to the historic Princes Pier and the modern foreshore walk, or choose one of many cafes and restaurants here or in Bay St for lunch or dinner.
Walk along the walking trails or hire a push bike and follow the beach in the other direction towards St Kilda, and admire the variety of old and new foreshore buildings as you go.

Not that far, and the beautiful old lines of trees and gardens are gorgeous. The conservatory is really interesting also; and Cook's Cottage. It's interesting historically, but I think it's a bit odd to be here in Melbourne.
