Istotą instytucji jest pokazanie dziedzictwa regionu w całym bogactwie i niezwykłości, lecz w perspektywie europejskiej, czy szerzej – światowej. Nowe technologie, język najbliższy młodym pokoleniom są dominującym środkiem wyrazu i komunikacji idei. Na szczególną uwagę zasługuje również sam budynek, za którego projekt, Bolesław Stelmach zdobył w 2017 roku Nagrodę Roku Stowarzyszenia Architektów Polskich. Na dachu widokowym obiektu można odwiedzić Miejską Pasiekę Artystyczną.
