Kassiopi is located on the northeastern tip of Corfu, near the narrow canal that separates Albania and Greece, opposite the Albanian port of Agioi Saranda. He played an important role in the history of the island, as can be seen from the impressive ruins of the castle overlooking the port. It is said that Nero watched a play in the theater here, and that Antonios and Cleopatra stayed here before the naval battle of Aktio where they suffered catastrophic defeat. The castle was an important stronghold of Byzantium and Venice during the Venetian occupation, one of the four of the island with intermediate observatories, so it was possible to exchange messages quickly….

Kassiopi Castle is a castle on the northeastern coast of Corfu overseeing the fishing village of Kassiopi, and was one of three castles which defended the island before the Venetian era (1401–1797). The castles formed a defensive triangle, with Gardiki guarding the island’s south, Kassiopi Castle the northeast and Angelokastro the northwest.
