Mount Moiwa is a small mountain in the center of Sapporo surrounded by virgin forest. The journey to the summit of the mountain involves taking a ropeway followed by a unique little cable car. It's also possible to hike. The summit has a restaurant, planetarium, theater and an observation deck with views of the city that are particularly good at night. There's a romantic tradition associated with Mount Moiwa whereby local couples write messages on padlocks, ring a bell on the observation deck together and leave their message locked to a fence at the summit.
