Hills Beach is a small, hidden gem located on the other side of the beautiful campus of the University of New England, in Biddeford - one town south of Saco. Park your car for free - there are limited spaces parallel to the road directly across from Bufflehead's restaurant, with walkways nearby leading to the beach. In low tide you can actually walk across the sand bar to what is, in higher tides, an island.
Drive slow through the campus to avoid possible speeding tickets.

Just 1.5 miles from the house, established in 1844 and situated on the banks of the Saco River, with sweeping views of same (at the rear), this is a large, beautifully maintained, highly recommended place for those seeking a quiet wander, bike ride, or jog amongst old, towering trees, tons of squirrels, birds, and lovely old headstones. In spring hundreds of daffodils bloom on a sloping field overlooking the water. Check out the small, lovely 1890 Queen Anne style stone chapel towards the front of the property that is still frequently used for weddings. There is also a walking trail leading down to the water.
