Right on our doorstep! Take a hike up to Edward Thomas's Poet's Stone on Shoulder of Mutton Hill. Fabulous views and worth the climb!

Great for families. Good playgrounds and lots of cycling routes especially suitable for children. Follow the Gruffalo Trail or "Go Ape" - there is both a junior and adult option. New cafe facilities or take a picnic.

Sightseeing
Fabulous day out with Nelson's flagship, HMS Victory, Henry VIII's warship, The Mary Rose and HMS Warrior. You can take a harbour tour, learn about the naval history of Portsmouth or, especially suitable for the children, go into Action Stations where they have climbing walls and Laser Quest. My kids love Boathouse Number 4 where you can have a go at climbing a mast! Can you ring the bell at the top?!

Fabulous day out with Nelson's flagship, HMS Victory, Henry VIII's warship, The Mary Rose and HMS Warrior. About a 45 minute drive, but the city of Arundel is well worth a visit. The castle has a variety of sight seeing options. We like to do the grounds and a visit to the Keep where the views are superb. They have a wonderful display of tulips in the spring. Just down the road is the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust - lots of ducks and geese to be seen, a couple of playgrounds for the kids and a boat ride to see the water voles.

About a 45 minute drive, but the city of Arundel is well worth a visit. The castle has a variety of sight seeing options. We like to do the grounds and a visit to the Keep where the views are superb. If visiting the Historic Dockyard at Portsmouth, combine it with a visit to Gunwharf Quay. Great selection of shops, restaurants, cinema, bowling and The Spinnaker Tower, where on a clear day you can look out over the Isle of Wight and Hampshire.

We are blessed with lots of National Trust properties nearby - Uppark, Petworth House and Mottisfont are all well worth a visit. The nearest though is Hinton Ampner. Not necessarily as beautiful as Mottisfont (which is my personal favourite), it nevertheless has lovely gardens (including an inspiring vegetable patch!) for kids to explore and, of course, has the obligatory National Trust cafe and shop. An easy afternoon out.
