Places to visit in Iasi

Iași County is the most populous county in Romania, after the Municipality of Bucharest (the capital of Romania). City of Iași is the most important city in Moldavia and one of the most important social, cultural and business centres in Romania. It has the oldest University in the country, and, until the formation of the United Principalities (24th oh January), it was the capital of Moldavia. Known as The Cultural Capital of Romania, Iași is a symbol in Romanian history. The historian Nicolae Iorga said "There should be no Romanian who does not know of it". Still referred to as The Moldavian Capital, Iași is the main economic and business centre of the Moldavian region of Romania. In December 2018, Iași was officially declared Historical capital of Romania. At the 2011 census, the city proper had a population of 290,422 (making it the fourth most populous in Romania at the time). With 474,035 residents (as of 2015), the Iași urban area is the second most populous in Romania (after Bucharest),whereas more than 500,000 people live within its peri-urban area. Home to the oldest Romanian university and to the first engineering school, Iași is one of the most important education and research centres of the country, and accommodates over 60,000 students in 5 public universities. The social and cultural life revolves around the Vasile Alecsandri National Theater (the oldest in Romania), the Moldova State Philharmonic, the Opera House, the Iași Athenaeum, a famous Botanical Garden (the oldest and largest in Romania), the Central University Library (the oldest in Romania), the high quality cultural centres and festivals, an array of museums, memorial houses, religious and historical monuments. The city is also known as the site of the largest Romanian pilgrimage which takes place each year, in October. What you should know and visit in Iași: • City of Iași and its environs (the Seven hills of Iași) - It is a common belief that Iași is built on seven hills (Romanian: coline): Breazu, Bucium, Cetățuia, Copou, Galata, Repedea and Șorogari, thus triggering comparisons with Rome. • Princely Court of Moldavia - The neo-Gothic Palace of Culture, built on the old ruins of the mediaeval Princely Court and on the foundations of the former neoclassical Princely Palace of Moldavia. • Al. Lăpușneanu Street; • Grand Hotel Traian (Union Square), designed and built by Gustave Eiffel; • Panoramic view of the Copou Hill; • Pogor House; • The Bahlui is the largest river of Iași County, in eastern Romania. It is a right tributary of the river Jijia. Its name is derived from Cuman and it means "muddy river". The Bahlui has a length of 119 km and a catchment area of 1967 km². The average discharge is about 2.8 m³/s. You are lucky to stay at Welcome Home Central Cosy Studio because you are located in the center of Iasi. Benefits: The center of the city is very accesible to anything. You can get easily everywhere you need. There are various non-stop restaurants, pubs, hospitals, pharmacies and shops (also 24h opened), places to visit. During the night, local police is always around checking the streets. Disadvantages: If you want a quiet place, avoid the center. Sometimes you can hear the crowds in the city, the concerts, the people who go out at night. This is something normal for everyone who wants to live in the center of a city.

The center of the city is full of people from all over the world. They celebrate Paraschiva Saint, but it can be a good opportunity to find out about this culture. The city will be full of people, parties, concerts and all kind of activities. It is one of the bussiest period of the year.

How to get in Iasi?

Lets start with the begining. If you want to visit Iasi, you have various possibilities to get here: - by car (rented or personal car). As a host, we also have a Rent-a-Car Company so we can provide you this facility. - by flight ( International Airport of Iasi) - by bus. There are three bus station in Iasi. ( Trans Codreanu Bus Station (closed to our home), Iasi-Vest Bus Station (Pacurari street) and Eurovoyage Bus Station) - by train station. There are two in Iasi: The Central Train Station ( closed to us and to Codreanu Bus Station) and Nicolina Train Station.

Fastest route to get around

- public transportation by bus, mini-bus and trams; Buy your ticket before taking one and compost it once you wil get in to not receive a fee. Various shops are around where you can ask for info. - taxi; Install the apps. Each taxi driver has to give you the bill, to have their taximeter turned on and to give you the change as required. - own or rented car. Please see the signs were you can park to not receive tickets. There are various places where you can park and those does not requires payment. - It is said that sport makes the leg beautiful :) Ask your host for more information!
