This gem is on the road less traveled in Alaska but is a national scenic byway and absolutely breathtaking. You can pay an access feet to drive quite close to the glacier, and either take a guided trek or walk out onto the ice yourself- a truely Alaskan experience. Great food at Grand View Cafe and RV Park about mile 109 Glenn Highway.

During the summer months you can drive up to the old mine and take a tour of the buildings. In the winter you can drive fairly close and enjoy a cross country ski on a loop that is groomed (depending on snow conditions) near the mine.

Stunning views and a nice place to take a hike. There's a little ice cream place on the way, if they're open I'd recommend getting yourself a treat!

Alaskan roads are often single lane. With spectacular views, you may want to drive slow and take it all in. However, locals who drive these roads are often doing long days of driving to get into a town, do errands, and drive home. These trips can often take locals an entire day. If you're driving below the speed limit and you see cars piling up behind you, pull over and let them pass.

Alaskans are known to be quite friendly. Even in Anchorage, we have a small town feel. If you're coming from a big city, expect that people will say hello to you, hold doors open, and be generally courteous- you should do the same. Take this time to unplug from your feeds and take in the scenery.
