Historic parts of Nottingham
Did you know that Nottingham is built on sandstone? The old city centre is riddled with caves.
There are many underground tours which you can take showing Nottingham city from an unusual and different aspect.
Take an archaeological journey under some of Nottingham’s most famous streets…
There are several tours, the simplest of which is called ‘Cave Detectives’ for £7.50 per pupil you can take an hour tour. Pupils will explore the historic caves under the streets of Nottingham learning about the people who used them and how they were used at different times throughout history. The class will be divided into small groups to explore and examine different areas of the caves including materials found in them.

You can actually visit a working windmill in the centre of Nottingham.
See inside amazing inner workings of the windmill over four floors, including the grain cleaner and grindstones. Learn about how our miller uses the windmill to turn grain into our award winning organic flour.
If you're lucky and wind is blowing you will see see the beautiful windmill sails turning.
Climb to the top of the mill tower and see far over Nottingham.
