Sightseeing

A good sized retail market in the north of the town and a traditional market in the towns market place make Newark a good place for variety of shopping. Two or three times every year, Newark becomes a major centre for the antiques world as there are 'fairs' held on the showground which are well worth a visit. Make certain that you have your credit card handy. The Air Museum has a very comprehensive collection of aircraft from the second world war as well as the cold war period.

Newark was one of the strongholds in the Civil war and there is much evidence of this in the town. St Mary's Parish church spire has a hole which is clearly visible from some aspects, where a Roundhead cannonball passed through as the town was being bombarded.

Drinks & Nightlife

The Royal Oak stands at the side of the largest village green in England and the history of its site goes back to Roman times when it seems that there was a 'Temple of Bachus'. Mine host, Richard and his wife Vicky are the most hospitable hosts and the restaurant menu is highly recommended. At the rear of the pub is a good sized, well maintained field which accepts caravans and motor caravans. The facilities supplied are excellent.

Entertainment & Activities

A very interesting day out for kids and adults as well. There are many interesting attractions for the space buff and some pretty scary rides in a mock up of a space shuttle coming off the launch pad.
