The Tower rooms are in a refurbished historic defensive tower (dating from 1574) providing a mini castle experience. Through a huge stone entrance, into an inner panelled entrance hall and through a private door up an ancient and narrow staircase to a tiny sitting area with shower room and kitchenette off. Finally up again with a spiral stone staircase leading to a romantic and secluded upper chamber. Medieval and bijoux - a micro experience of being a Laird or Lady of the House for the night.
We are based by the River Leader (also known as the Leader Water) in an exceptionally beautiful part of the Scottish Borders. The locale is littered with monuments, fine walks, stately homes, lovely shopping towns like Melrose and St. Boswells, hills to walk up and beautiful scenery. All this within an hours journey to Edinburgh by car or by train.

Edinburgh is an hour by train/car. All linen/towels, free wi-fi, logs and heating are included. No TV. 1 small dog well behaved allowed @£5.00 night.
The apartment is ideal for a couple or for a small family or group of friends wanting to explore the Scottish Borders. Steps lead to the garden at the rear, and to the apartment front door. There is a large kitchen/dining area, well equipped with everything you need - oven, microwave, toaster, washing machine, dishwasher and fridge freezer. The spacious lounge has a log burning stove and a piano. The single bedroom and shower room are on the first floor and the double bedroom (double bed and single bed) and bathroom with bath are on the second floor. The small garden and patio area are great for relaxing or having a summer BBQ.
The apartment is a 10 minute walk from the Southern Upland Way (long distance walking route), and the Earlston Walking Group have created some very scenic and varied way marked walks which are easy to find from the apartment. There are woodland and riverside walks, as well as Black Hill which affords great views across the Borders towards the iconic Eildon hills.

    Melrose, the home of Rugby Sevens lies in the Tweed valley at the foot of iconic Eildon Hills, the most recognisable landmark in the whole of the Scottish Borders. (Free parking from 5pm til 9.30am). The main attraction of the property is the living room window where you can sit and watch the world go by, just as Mabel did. The views to the to the beautiful St. Mary’s Abbey (circa 1136); the final resting place of Robert the Bruce’s heart are simply stunning. You enter the light, bright apartment which has been recently redecorated and re carpeted via a main communal door, and up a few steps to the front door. Inside the hallway opens up to: Bathroom with shower enclosure, toilet and wash hand basin. Double bedroom with good storage and a dressing table and views to the Abbey. Straight ahead lies the living room with views to the Abbey and gardens – the table at the window provides delightful views of the stunning Abbey and surrounding countryside. The fully equipped kitchen is off the living room and has everything you will need to make your stay enjoyable but with so many lovely restaurants literally right on the doorstep you may find you don’t need to do any cooking!     School Cottage is located in the picturesque village of Gattonside, a 10 minute walk from the centre of the historic town of Melrose. Ideally situated for sight seeing, walkers, cyclists and people looking to fish the Tweed. You can enjoy the stunning scenery with access to the Eildon hills. A short drive away is Tweedbank where you will find the train station that travels to Edinburgh Waverley. The journey takes about an hour also stopping at other destinations on the way.
    The cosy Cottage has an entrance hall which leads into the living room, kitchen and dining area. The living room has a wood burning stove, comfy sofa and tartan chair. The kitchen is well equipped with a dining table. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one double the other single along with a recently renovated bathroom.
    Gattonside has two award winning restaurants and Melrose several cafes, hotels, restaurants and shops.

Dit bezoek gingen we naar enkele van de lokale steden en een reis naar Edinburgh via park en rit, wat zowel kosteneffectief was als het gemak van reizen naar de hoofdstad. Reis naar het Italiaanse restaurant in Melrose was een smakelijke met veel keuze.

  • Wij waren de eerste mensen die dit nieuwe Airbnb-eigendom gebruikten. Het huisje is mooi met schattige kleine details. Ik ging naar mijn dochter en haar partner die in Gattonside wonen. Cottage was groot genoeg om games en drankjes voor 4 volwassenen en zondag diner de volgende dag te organiseren. Keuken goed uitgerust met alles wat we nodig hadden. Ruime grote slaapkamer met comfortabel bed, schoon, kwaliteitslinnen. Warm en gastvrij, met open haard voor de winteravond. Korte wandeling naar Melrose, dat een verscheidenheid aan pubs, restaurants, cadeauwinkels en cafés heeft. We hebben al omgeboekt voor een retour in januari. Parkeren is aan de straatkant, enkele meters verderop. We hebben het gebied eerder bezocht en er zijn enkele mooie wandelingen en lokale historische bezienswaardigheden die je misschien wilt zien.     Recently renovated about 2 years ago we class our house as very cosy comfortable and relaxing. We like to think our guests would experience that feeling too. We also have a second room for anyone wanting to book for bigger parties ( listed separately on airbnb).
    Cosy comfortable sunny double room , tea and coffee supplied and shared bathroom (if other room occupied). Ideally situated for sight seeing, walkers, cyclists and people looking to fish the tweed. You can enjoy our stunning scenery. Easy access to the Eildon hills, and 2 mile walk to the beautiful town of Melrose . There you can visit the historic Abbey and enjoy lots of lovely coffee shops, bars and restaurants and join The Southern Upland Way walk leading through lots of border towns. You can also join the St Cuthbarts way walk at the back of the house enjoying a lovely stroll along the river tweed. There is a bus stop situated across from our house with services to various different villages and towns and directly to Edinburgh. A short drive away in Tweedbank you will find the train station that travels to Edinburgh Waverly which takes about an hour also stopping at other destinations on the way.
    Very quiet and relaxed village with beautiful scenery all around. Shop and local pub within 5 minutes walking distance.

It's ground floor and located just a 10-15 minute walk from Galashiels town centre with access to Edinburgh. A traditional stone built home with open plan living/ kitchen area, with shower room and toilet. Tea & herbal, coffee, sugar and milk are provided for arrival. Close to Heriot Watt University, the Borders Railway and Town Centre.
    The shower is wonderful, we are told by guests that this is so important, especially when working, a great start to the day. (Please note it sleeps 2 comfortably and has an additional fold out bed in lounge) The lovely apartment has all mod coms with a flat screen TV, DVD player with a selection of DVD's and a Bose bluetooth sound system. It's a cosy homely apartment. A short walk that takes you past the beautiful river of Galafoot a 10-15 minute walk from the town centre including the new railway station (the train takes 50 minutes to the centre of Edinburgh). Driving from the apartment to Galashiels town centre takes 3-5 minutes.
    Quiet and close to Heriot Watt University, the Borders Railway and Town Centre. Galashiels is one of the larger towns in the Borders and we are situated a short drive (3 minutes) or a walk (15 minutes) from the town centre and rail and bus links. Galashiels has many shops, we love to shop local but there is a 24 hour Asda and Tesco. There are great pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes. And for entertainment there are parks, a cinema and a swimming pool. Other town and villages nearby are Melrose, Selkirk, Jedburgh, Kelso, Hawick and Peebles. There is a train to Edinburgh which takes 50 minutes. Places of interest include the Melrose Abbey, Abbotsford House (home of Sir Walter Scott) and much more. Surrounding towns are Melrose, Jedburgh, Hawick and Kelso. There are also many wonderful scenic walks in the Scottish Borders and our town is renowned for fishing, rubgy and biking trails.

    The Stables Holiday Cottage Melrose forms forming part of a luxurious new barn conversion just three miles from the pretty Borders town of Melrose in the Scottish Borders with spectacular views towards the Eildon Hills and countryside beyond. Sympathetically renovated to create stunning light-filled living spaces which compliment their rural settings. The Stables Holiday Cottage Melrose is a perfect mix of original and contemporary features teamed with luxurious furnishings, stylish fixtures and underfloor heating. The light filled open plan living area has superb views of the Eildon Hills and opens out onto a south-facing decked area from which to relax and enjoy a glass of wine! The two bedrooms are beautifully appointed with comfortable beds and luxurious linens with one bedroom en-suite and the other enjoying its own separate luxurious bathroom.
    The property sits on one floor and comprises:- A utility room which is accessed from the main door of the property and includes a sink, storage area, and washing machine with dryer. Open plan sitting room/dining kitchen. The sitting room area features elegant furnishings from Michael Vee Interiors including a sofa (please note the sofa in the photos has since been replaced with a darker coloured 3 seater), large wing armchair and leather chair with footstool. Technology includes a wall mounted flatscreen TV with Freeview and DVD players. Books, board games and a selection of DVDs are provided. The kitchen is fully equipped with electric cooker, ceramic hob, large fridge/freezer, integrated dishwasher and microwave. Dining space with seating for four. Bedroom one has a superking bed, with side tables, console, and fitted wardrobe with shelving and hanging space. Family Bathroom with separate shower unit (rainforest head), large bath, basin, heated towel rail and WC. Bedroom two features zip and link beds which can be set up as a superking or twin as preferred - please let us know at time of booking how you would prefer this room to be made up. Eating Out The village of Gattonside is a ten minute walk away and there are two restaurants there – Seasons and the Hoebridge. Melrose is about a 25 minute walk with various cafes, bars and restaurants. Dogs Two well-behaved dogs are welcome at the property at a charge of £20 per dog, but they must be kept to the uncarpeted areas of the property and are not permitted in the bedrooms. It is essential that owners clean-up after their pets and respect the access requirements of the estate. The area surrounding the barn is farmland and dogs must be kept under control at all times, and particularly when there is livestock in the adjacent fields. Please advise at the time of booking if you will be bringing your dogs. Guest privacy The Stables is a semi-detached property and sits within a small, peaceful development of three other converted properties. The decking area and garden ground looks onto the access of the adjoining Smiddy and Granary. If you have any concerns, please call us to discuss. There are open fields to the front and rear of the development. No Smoking Smoking is strictly prohibited. Additional Accommodation For guests looking to holiday together this cottage can be booked alongside the Granary sleeping 8, Byre sleeping 4 and Smiddy sleeping 4. The properties are located next door to each other.
    You are located in the heart of the Scottish Borders countryside with the most stunning views towards the Eildons. There are four holiday cottages in total and multiple bookings are certainly very welcome.

A snug and quirky space with own entrance, comprised of a downstairs area with lounge, kitchenette, dining table, WC and shower. Upstairs bedroom has two single beds. Private off road parking directly outside the property. Books, wifi and digital radio to keep you entertained but no TV. In the heart of the village of St Boswells, a perfect base for exploring the Scottish Borders.
    The shower is directly off the main living space, see photos for reference. The bedroom is at the top of a set of narrow and steep stairs so may be unsuitable for those with limited mobility.     The owners Neil & Ann have lovingly restored this property as it was the first house they had when they got together. They hope one day to retire back here as it holds such wonderful memories for them and they hope they can help you create some wonderful holiday memories too.

  • Mijn vrouw, oudste zoon en ik brachten een week door in Hawthorn Cottage tijdens onze tour door Schotland. We waren daar om Melrose te bezoeken en de omliggende districten te verkennen. Hawthorn Cottage bleek gewoon perfect te zijn. Het is slechts een korte wandeling naar Melrose, dus u hoeft de auto niet te nemen en heeft een fantastische blootstelling aan een groot aantal geweldige wandelingen rond het lokale platteland. Het huisje is goed uitgerust en uiterst comfortabel en een beetje eigenzinnig. Het heeft een mooi gevoel voor geschiedenis. Linda is een geweldige gastheer en was heel gemakkelijk om te communiceren. We zouden niet aarzelen om Hawthorne Cottage opnieuw te gebruiken als de noodzaak zich voordoet.

Mooie keuken en badkamers, veel ruimte om te spreiden en toch gezellig en comfortabel. Linda was de meest perfecte gastheer met een welkom van verse bloemen en een geschenkmand en met voorzieningen al in de koelkast !!! Ze was zeer attent en met geweldige communicatie !!!!   • We hebben een heerlijke week gehad in Hawthorn Cottage. Alles was geweldig. Het huisje was mooi en zeer comfortabel. Bedden waren zeer comfortabel en de douche warm en krachtig. De keuken heeft alles wat je nodig hebt en de mand met lekkers was een leuke traktatie net als de verse bloemen. De woonkamer was zo gezellig en zo een genot om 's avonds te gebruiken en de bovenverdieping licht en luchtig. De wandeling naar Melrose langs het pad was heerlijk net als de wandeling langs de Tweed. Er waren een aantal toeristische attracties op korte rijafstand. We hebben mooie herinneringen gemaakt.     Lovely twin bedroom with private bathroom located in Melrose, close to the Eildon Hills. Great location for walkers, cyclists and anyone who generally likes the outdoors. Melrose town centre is a 15 minutes walk downhill, with lovely local shops, restaurants, cafes, delicatessens, bakeries and butchers. Guests can be treated to breakfast of cereals, home cooked porridge or eggs, toast and preserves.
    Lovely twin bedroom with space for guests to hang clothes and store their belongings. Separate bathroom is just next door which is solely for the use of those staying, with an excellent power shower and bath. The bedroom has a kettle in it, with tea, coffee and biscuits which you are welcome to help yourself to, along with a TV. Clean towels and toiletries will also be provided.
    Melrose is a very pretty town with a number of lovely pubs, cafes and restaurants to choose from, along with Melrose Abbey which is situated in the centre. It's also a great base for walking the popular St Cuthberts Way, Eildon Hills and the Southern Upland Way. Other places of interest nearby include Abbotsford House which is a 10 min drive away, Traquair House which is a 30 min drive away, Melrose Golf Club which is a 5 min walk away and the River Tweed which is great for salmon fishing.

  • We verbleven in dit appartement omdat plaatsen in Edinburgh te duur waren en de stad Tweedbank op een directe spoorlijn naar de stad ligt. En het was heel gemakkelijk om met de trein de grote stad in te schieten; het appartement is een mooie en niet ver lopen van het station (vooral als je de voetgangerspaden in de buurt vindt). Maar we ontdekten ook dat er heel veel dingen te doen waren rondom Tweedbank zelf! We liepen naar grand Abbotsford, naar Melrose met zijn prachtige tuinen en abdij, langs de rivier de Tweed, naar een groot aantal speeltuinen en parken, en naar Galashiels om te zwemmen en winkelen. Het appartement zelf is niet luxueus, maar het heeft wat we nodig hadden. WiFi was soms traag, maar we hadden verschillende apparaten tegelijkertijd verbonden. De buurt is rustig en veilig en we werden nooit gestoord door burenlawaai in het gebouw. Bovendien is Humphrey zo vriendelijk geweest om een artikel te verzenden dat achterbleef na het afrekenen. Zo blij dat we besloten om "genoegen te nemen" met een afgelegen plek, zodat we een juweel "buiten de gebaande paden" konden ontdekken!

Zeer handig voor de trein naar Edinburgh met gratis parkeren bij Tweedbank station. Prachtig gebied van Schotland. Parkeren is erg goed in het appartement - je moet gewoon drie trappen met gemakkelijke trappen kunnen beklimmen!

We verbleven voor 3 nachten voor de 60e verjaardag van mijn moeder, en ik ben zo blij dat we deze plek koos - het had alles wat we zochten en nog veel meer. De gastheren hadden zelfs gekoelde Prosecco bij aankomst geleverd, ideaal! De plaats was vlekkeloos schoon bij aankomst, en de slaapkamer / badkamer is prachtig. De locatie was geweldig want het was mooi en rustig met een prachtig uitzicht, maar toch een leuke ontspannen wandeling naar Melrose. Ik moet toegeven dat ik hoge verwachtingen had van deze plek waar meer dan voldaan werd! Heel erg bedankt voor het helpen ons een 60ste verjaardagsverrassing te geven die ze nooit zal vergeten.

    Situated in the village of Newtown St Boswells, this holiday home is a modern newly refurbished, two -bedroomed house with private parking and garden. Newtown St Boswells is a small village which sits near the banks of the Tweed in the central Scottish borders. It has easy access to Edinburgh, being within 5 miles of the new Borders rail link at Tweedbank and to all the major towns in the borders including Melrose, Galashiels, Selkirk, Jedburgh, Hawick, Kelso and Peebles.
    The house consists of an open plan living/kitchen/dining area. The kitchen is fully equipped and has an electric cooker, microwave, washing machine and fridge/ freezer. This then leads into the dining area with table and 4 chairs. The living area consists of a leather sofa bed which would be suitable for occasional use by two small children or one adult, and two armchairs. A Freeview tv, and an mp3 player are provided. There is also sideboard with games, books and jigsaws and information on the equipment in the apartment and on what to do in the local area. The bathroom is upstairs and has a bath with overhead shower and a cupboard and shaver point. The larger bedroom has a double bed, large fitted wardrobe containing an iron, ironing board and dryer, two chests of drawers and a dressing table. A hairdryer is provided. The smaller bedroom has two single beds, a fitted wardrobe and a small chest of drawers. There is another hairdryer in this room. A travel cot can be provided if required. Heating, hot water, electricity, linen and towels are included in the price and wifi is available throughout the house. You have access to the garden shed which contains two adult bikes which are available for your use at your own risk. There is private parking in front of the house and a garden to the rear. A welcome basket will be provided for your arrival containing essentials for the start of your holiday, as well as a few treats.
    Newtown St Boswells has a well stocked Coop, a chemist, a newspaper shop and a pub. The nearest large town to Newtown St Boswells is Galashiels where you will find an Asda and Tesco, both of which are open 24 hours and do home deliveries, along with many other shops, restaurants and cafes. You can visit the abbeys of Dryburgh, Jedburgh, Kelso as well as Melrose, the home of sevens rugby and the site of Roman remains. There are also many stately homes, castles and gardens throughout the borders which are open to the public. Local festivals and ridings of the marches are held during the summer months in most of the borders towns. Edinburgh with its world famous festival and New Year celebrations can be reached in less than an hour by train from Tweedbank station which is less than 5 miles away. We are also about an hour’s drive to the beaches and the famous golf courses of East Lothian. There are also many local golf courses which welcome visitors. The village is an excellent base for walkers being next to St Cuthbert’s Way and close to The Southern Upland Way, with paths along the banks of the River Tweed. The area is perfect for cyclists with many marked routes and a network of quiet country roads. The house is around 23 miles to Peebles with its world class mountain biking trails. A bike stand and washing facilities are available and we can provide locked storage for bikes. Fishing and horse riding can also be arranged in the local area.

  • Mooie plek in een mooie stad, rustig en ruim met een mooi uitgeruste keuken en enkele kleine details, zoals een paraplu en een zaklamp. Het voelt heel gezellig om daar te zijn. Tijdens onze reis waren we ook verrast om een kleine kan melk te zien die ons in de koelkast begroette, evenals thee en koekjes. (We hadden de leuke co-op-supermarkt in Melrose net eerder ontdekt en waren allemaal uitgerust, dus we vertrokken alles voor de volgende bezoekers). Absoluut geweldig: het Tweedbank-station ligt op 22 minuten lopen en brengt u in 55 minuten naar Edinburgh, wat super handig is. In het huis hadden we geen problemen met mijn moeder en haar rollator, maar wees ervan bewust dat er twee stappen zijn om het huis van voren binnen te komen. Wees geen idioot buitenlander zoals ik die niet begrijpt hoe Schotse deuren / deurkrukken werken (door de hendel omhoog te duwen, wordt deze vergrendeld en kun je ook de sleutel omdraaien). Sheelagh en Mark zijn echter erg aardig en behulpzaam, mocht je problemen hebben. Houd er rekening mee dat google maps en autonavigatie de locatie van het huis aan de straat mogelijk niet 100% kloppen. Maar wees niet bang: Sheelagh zal je vooraf geweldige instructies sturen over hoe je de plaats kunt vinden - en de Airbnb-foto's helpen je het te identificeren. Je kunt in de tuin of op straat parkeren, je hebt misschien wat licht nodig als je te laat bent om op het punt te komen waar de bewegingssensor je detecteert. Vanuit Melrose kunt u gemakkelijk de oostkust verkennen, genieten van lokale bezienswaardigheden in Melrose en omgeving, of een dagje druppelen naar Edinburgh of Glasgow. Nationale parken en prachtige landwegen zijn overal. Sommige delen van het gebied tussen Melrose en Edinburgh lijken echt veel op de Hooglanden, schapen en zo. Beschouw jezelf geluk als je deze leuke plek voor je verblijf betrapt.

    Very quiet area with great views lovely walks and access to village pub and local shop. On Saint Cuthberts way. A 2 mile walk to Melrose where you will find Melrose Abbey, lots of coffee shops, bars and restaurants. You can also pick up The Southern Upland Way Walk leading through various border towns. You are also on the door step of the River Tweed if you are looking to do a bit of fishing. All borders Abbeys with easy reach. Local transport passes the door and 5 min drive away at tweedbank you can get the train to Edinburgh which takes about an hour Borders general.hospital is only a short distance along the road

  • John en Amanda hebben aan elk klein detail gedacht. De Attick-vensters zijn geweldig. Je kunt 's nachts in bed liggen en naar de sterren kijken, of je kunt de zonwering schuiven om de kamer donkerder te maken. De dakramen kunnen worden geopend voor ventilatie. Ik verbleef in de winter. De kamer was goed verwarmd. De elektrische douche was perfect, er waren voldoende handdoeken. Alles was brandschoon. Het ontbijt was geweldig. Zowel John als Amanda hebben veel moeite gedaan om me comfortabel en welkom te voelen. Bedankt voor een aangenaam verblijf

Ik waardeer de flexibiliteit bij het inchecken en de kamer is absoluut vlekkeloos. We sliepen als houtblokken en stonden op om te genieten van een eenvoudig maar zeer effectief ontbijt, verspreid met Alison.
