Bourton-on-the-Water is arguably one of the most popular villages of the Cotswolds, especially amongst overseas visitors. Having been nicknamed the "Venice of the Cotswolds", its scenery is the main draw for travellers. The River Windrush meanders through beautiful English countryside before passing over rapids next to the Old Mill and arriving at Bourton. The river is fed from many springs, with the source approximately ten miles from the village and, after flowing under the bridges of Bourton, it passes other villages before eventually joining the Thames. There are various attractions in the village, including the famous Birdland, which is home to a variety of birds from around the world. Here visitors can see parrots, pelicans, flamingos and penguins to name just a few, with experienced keepers feeding the birds and leading demonstrations. The Model Village is well worth a visit, as Bourton is the only village in the Cotswolds to have a one-ninth scale replica of itself. It is carefully maintained and has all of the characterful buildings including the Old Water Mill and the Old New Inn. Those lucky enough to witness snow in the winter months will notice photographers at the model village trying to get the perfect picture of the snowy scene. Another family favourite is the Dragonfly Maze. This yew maze leads visitors through the labyrinth, gathering clues in order to find the pavilion in the centre which enables them to unlock the final secret! The maze was constructed by Kit Williams, author of the golden hare treasure hunt book, "Masquerade". Food & Drink Bourton has a variety of places to eat and drink, including cafes, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants, with a range of prices to suit all budgets. The list below is a small sample of the options available: The Chester House Hotel and The Croft Restaurant (www.chesterhousehotel.com): Breakfast, morning coffee, lunches and evening meals in a riverside restaurant. You can enjoy freshly prepared, local produce throughout the day and night, with seasonal specials added to the menu daily. The Duke of Wellington (www.dukeofwellingtonbourton.co.uk): A local village inn aiming to provide fresh home cooked food with a friendly service. There is a light snacking menu, a full menu and a wonderful range of desserts and hot beverages. As well as daily home cooked specials, on Sundays you can enjoy a traditional carvery with all the trimmings from 12-6pm. The Mousetrap Inn (www.mousetrap-inn.com): A traditionally run Cotswold stone Inn, with a history dating back to the building of the railways in the 18th Century. Serving home-made food, along with fantastic, locally brewed real ales. The Village Restaurant & Tearooms (www.thevillagerestaurant.co.uk): Traditional, home cooked food in a friendly atmosphere, overlooking the river Windrush, in the heart of Bourton-on-the-Water.

Zeer ongewoon huisje in Cotswold.

  • Haven on the Hill is het perfecte uitje.

Fantastische pizza-oven!

The Cotswolds are characterised by attractive small towns and villages, built of the underlying Cotswold stone (a yellow oolitic limestone). In the Middle Ages the wool trade made the Cotswolds prosperous and some of this money was put into the building of churches, leaving the area with a number of large handsome Cotswold stone "wool churches". The area remains affluent, which has encouraged the establishment of many high quality pubs, restaurants and antique shops.

The Cotswolds: If you’re looking for somewhere with a surprise round every corner then look no further than the beautiful Cotswolds. Famous for quintessentially English market towns and villages built from honey-coloured stone, the Cotswolds are a range of gently rolling hills and the largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England and Wales making them a perfect base for keen walkers and cyclists. Escape the high street and lose yourself in village lanes full to bursting with quirky and independent shops, restaurants and farmers markets or soak up the amazing atmosphere of one of our many festivals and events. You’ll find some of the world’s most famous – and beautiful gardens in the Cotswolds, as well as wildlife parks, castles and stately homes and some of the finest historic buildings and churches in the country. Don’t be put off by our lack of coastline either! We have 40 miles of lakes in the Cotswold Water Park and numerous gently winding streams, canals and waterways criss-crossing the picturesque towns and villages. On the door step: WOODCHESTER PARK - the secret valley: Nestled in the Cotswolds, the secluded valley of Woodchester Park is home to the remains of an 18th- and 19th-century landscape park, a Victorian mansion, a chain of five lakes fringed by woodland and pasture, and an abundance of wildlife. The 19th Century Victorian Gothic Masterpiece was abandoned in mid-construction in 1873. Hidden in a secluded Cotswold valley, it is untouched by time and the modern world. This Grade 1 Listed Building has been saved from dereliction, but will never be completed. Visitors walk through an extraordinary architectural exhibit in which the secrets of the medieval Gothic builders and masons are laid bare. The carvings in Woodchester Mansion are among the finest of their kind in the world. 3 mins drive / 30 mins walk: NAILSWORTH: The artistic, market town of Nailsworth is nestled in a wooded valley in the south Cotswolds. Nailsworth is renowned for its selection of award-winning restaurants, pubs and cafes. Eating out in Nailsworth means you are spoilt for choice. Hobbs House Bakery is famous for being owned by the Fabulous Baker Brothers – Tom and Henry Herbert – and was featured on their TV show. William’s Food Hall has helped turn Nailsworth into a foodie haven. It draws celebrities and foodies through its doors to dine on fresh seafood and local produce. 5 mins drive: MINCHINHAMPTON The delightful, small market town of Minchinhampton sits on the edge of Minchinhampton Common. It's made up of pretty stone cottages, many dating back to the 17th century and medieval wool trade. There is a weekly country market and a good choice of cafes. Minchinhampton was chosen as a scenic location for the recent BBC TV adaptation of J K Rowling’s Casual Vacancy. There are breathtaking panoramic views of the Stroud Valleys from Minchinhampton Common, which sits on the Cotswold escarpment. It is an important archaeological landscape and managed by the National Trust. Rare orchids and butterflies can be spotted along with freely roaming horses and cattle. Please drive carefully over the common and keep an eye out for (URL HIDDEN) of the most famous residents is the Princess Royal who lives at Gatcombe Park on the edge of town. Every year, the famously quirky Giffords Circus takes up residence in Minchinhampton as part of its annual summer tour of the Cotswolds. 15 mins drive: TETBURY: Tetbury is a historic market town that is now internationally famous for its range of antiques shops and dealers. Independent boutique shops sit alongside restaurants that feature in the Michelin Guides. Tetbury attracts everyone from Royalty (Prince Charles and his sons' home, Highgrove, sits less than a mile away) to English countryside lovers, antique-finders, foodies and real ale connoisseurs. 8 min drive: STROUD: In the opposite direction and you will find yourself in the market town of Stroud - Situated below the western escarpment of the Cotswold Hills at the meeting point of the Five Valleys, the town is noted for its steep streets, independent spirit and cafe culture. The Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty surrounds the town, and the Cotswold Way path passes by it to the west. The award winning saturday farmers market IS A MUST! 25 min drive: BIBURY & ARLINGTON Bibury is a charming, typically Cotswold village just a short drive from Cirencester. It’s easy to see why William Morris called Bibury ‘The most beautiful village in England’ – wonderful stone buildings strung out along the banks of the River Coln. Arlington Row, owned by the National Trust, is one of England’s most iconic and photographed sites – it even appears on the inside cover of UK passports! Originally built in the 14th century as a monastic wool store, it was converted in the 17th century into a row of weavers’ cottages. The cottages are now lived in by National Trust tenants, with no public access to the cottages or gardens, although one of them can be rented out as a holiday cottage. The River Coln flows through Bibury sandwiched between the main village street and an expanse of boggy water meadow known as Rack Isle, so called because wool was once hung out to dry there on racks after it had been washed in Arlington Row. With Arlington Row as a backdrop, it makes one of the most picturesque scenes you will find in the Cotswolds. 30 min drive:CHELTENHAM SPA 45 min drive: BATH SPA

The accommodation is situated in a beautiful garden, very quiet and peaceful, ideal for a getaway from the city. Near the accommodation you will find a small garden for your own use with a table and chairs under the apple tree, where you can sit and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. There is also a beauty spa open all week called Lifestyle Health and Beauty which has all the latest treatments. We would like to encourage people who are working in the area to take our accommodation as it's near Cheltenham, Swindon, Bath and not far from Bristol.
Hankerton is a small Cotswold village between Malmesbury and Tetbury. Swindon Bath and Cheltenham are near. Nearby Malmesbury is an historic town with a wonderful Abbey that you might wish to visit. You may also like to see the gardens tended by the celebrated naked gardeners next door! A little further, Tetbury has some wonderful antique shops and delicatessens to browse and the famous Highgrove Shop, which is well worth a visit. Within ten miles is the market town of Cirencester, which is at the heart of the Cotswolds and there are many shops and an interesting Roman museum. For water sports, one can enjoy an abundance of activities such as sailing, jet ski, kite surfing and fishing around the many lakes of the Cotswold Water Parks, a few miles away.

    Anton2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Heerlijke plek om je terug te trekken. Vriendelijk onthaal en mooie ruimte.

    Sarah2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We kunnen deze plek ten zeerste aanbevelen. Alles was perfect.

    Margaret2019-12-31T00:00:00Z

Welcome to Bury Fields Cottage, brought to you exclusively by Character Cottages, local specialists in stylish, Cotswold holiday rentals. Bury Fields Cottage is a modern barn conversion and despite its rural appearance, the property is just a short walk from the centre of Bourton-on-the-Water, also known as the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’, due to the River Windrush that flows peacefully though the village. Bourton has a wide range of traditional pubs, shops and restaurants and is surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside, and the many picturesque market towns and villages of the Cotswolds are all within easy reach, as are further afield places, such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford and Bath. Important Customer Notice: - Special Events: Christmas, New Year and the Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival are Special Events, with bookings typically limited to weeks only from a specific start day If your dates don’t appear to fit, then please click Contact Host below to find out what options may exist for you!
Bury Fields Cottage is located off a farm track, just a short walk from the centre of Bourton-on-the-Water. The front door opens directly into the main living area and the following rooms: Living/dining room/galley: This bright and airy space provides a comfortable and sociable living area and contains a sofa, two bucket armchairs, electric flame effect fire and a wall-mounted Smart TV. The wooden dining table comfortably seats four. A staircase leads up from the living room to a gallery, with two large bean bags, two wicker chairs and a bookcase with a selection of books and games; Kitchen: This space has been thoughtfully designed and features an electric oven with four-ring induction hob, a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, kettle, microwave, toaster and filter coffee machine; Master bedroom: This room contains either a super king size bed or two single beds, and a combined chest of drawers and wardrobe; Bedroom 2: Another lovely room featuring a double wooden bed and a built-in cupboard; Family bathroom: Contains a walk-in rain shower with handheld shower attachment, toilet, wash basin and heated towel rail; Utility cupboard: Contains a washing machine/tumble dryer. A safe, locked storage facility is also provided for guests who are keen cyclists. There is space on the driveway at the front of the property for up to four cars.

    Georgia2020-02-24T00:00:00Z

Beautiful wooden steps lead up to the attractive main garden comprising of a fenced patio area with a garden table and chairs plus a barbecue, in addition there is a small grassed orchard area with a nice wooden seat and a drinks rest. The garden has lovely views of the owners’ garden and surrounding countryside and is the perfect place to relax.

We zullen zeker teruggaan.

Alles was prima. We zouden elk moment opnieuw gaan.

    Volker2017-11-01T00:00:00Z

Welcome to Butterrow Gate, brought to you exclusively by Character Cottages, local specialists in stylish, Cotswold holiday rentals. Butterrow Gate is a distinctive, beautifully renovated Grade II listed property which sits proudly on Butterrow Hill on the outskirts of the market town of Stroud. Located in the heart of the stunning "Five Valleys" region of the Cotswolds, Stroud is well known for its bohemian vibe and eclectic mix of shops, with Jasper Conran describing the weekly Farmers' Market held in the town as "the Covent Garden of the Cotswolds". The Five Valleys converge on Stroud and contain some of the most beautiful countryside Britain has to offer. Butterrow Gate is also well placed for exploring further afield, with the spa towns of Bath and Cheltenham both within easy reach. Important Customer Notice: - Special Events: Christmas, New Year and the Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival are Special Events, with bookings typically limited to weeks only from a specific start day If your dates don’t appear to fit, then please click Contact Host below to find out what options may exist for you!
The green front door opens into an entrance hall which houses the washing machine/tumble dryer, and the following rooms are on the ground floor: Living/dining room: Laid with beautiful flagstone flooring, this uniquely shaped room features original Cotswold stone walls, pretty stone mullion windows and a cosy wood burning stove. Tastefully decorated, this room contains a sofa, a footstool and an armchair, along with a Freesat TV with DVD player and a small dining table with drop down leaves which comfortably seats two; Kitchen: This compact yet well-equipped space contains an electric oven with four ring-induction hob, a dishwasher, Morphy Richards coffee machine, a fridge with a small freezer compartment, a kettle and toaster; Family bathroom: Located off the entrance hall, this room contains a walk-in shower, toilet and wash basin. Stairs lead up from the living area directly into the characterful bedroom: Master bedroom: With original Elm floorboards dating back to 1825, and exposed Cotswold stone walls, this bedroom has a romantic ambience and stunning views from the stone mullion windows over the pretty market town of Stroud and the surrounding valley. There is a pretty wrought iron double bed and two occasional chairs, as well an ornamental stone fireplace and a double wardrobe. The stable door from the bedroom opens onto the outside patio area decorated with pretty pots and featuring the walk-on glass area directly above the kitchen. Three steps lead up to a larger patio area with stunning views of the surrounding countryside and the market town of Stroud. This private, sunny space has an outdoor table, two chairs and a wooden bench, perfect for relaxing on warm summer days. A charcoal barbecue is provided from April to September, and there is a chiminea for cooler evenings. The outside space can also be accessed via a right of way through the neighbour’s garden and on street parking is available close to the property.
Encircled by five sweeping valleys opening out to the River Severn and made famous by Laurie Lee's novel "Cider with Rosie", the scenery is dramatic around Stroud. The town and its surrounding villages provide a great base from which to explore the undiscovered south Cotswolds, as well as for day trips to Bristol and Bath. London is just a 90 minute direct train away. At a time when the prevalence of chain stores has turned many of Britain's High Streets into copies of each other, Stroud is a welcome relief. With a bohemian vibe and an enviable array of independent shops, Stroud offers a unique shopping experience unrivalled by any town or city in the locality. Brimming with character and standing amidst the dramatic backdrop of the Five Valleys, Stroud has an eclectic mix of shops in the most beautiful of settings. The award-winning Farmers' Market is held each Saturday and is one of the best in the country, described by Jasper Conran as "the Covent Garden of the Cotswolds". Throughout the summer months, street performers will entertain you every Saturday morning and there is a full programme of music and theatre throughout the year – a true hub of cultural events. Stroud is a place that repays investigation, especially for the quality and variety of artists at work in the area – you could also choose to take part in one of the many traditional workshops! Food & Drink Stroud has numerous places to eat and drink, with a range of cuisines and prices to suit all tastes and budgets. The list below is a small sample of the range of options available: JRooL Bistro (www.jrool.co.uk): JRooL Bistro is a fine example of the sum of its parts being greater than the whole. The team has a passion for food and wine, such that the end result is an experience of food, wine and service that is, simply, award winning. The flexibility of the dining room encourages leisurely family lunches, business dining, appetisers and drinks at the bar, pre-theatre dinners or a full gastronomic experience; No 23 Bar & Bistro: No 23 is a popular, independent Stroud Bar, Café and Restaurant, specialising in tapas and Mediterranean fare. The fully stocked bar serves choice wines, beers and aperitifs to complement the extensive menu; Sorrento Italian Restaurant (www.sorrentostroud.co.uk): The menu offers superb presentations of traditional favourites, such as pizzas, pasta, succulent steaks, chicken and fish dishes, all served in a relaxing, friendly environment. Stroud also has a wide range of food retailers, including an award winning Farmers' Market, held every Saturday.

The front door opens directly from the street into the dining room, and the following rooms are on the well laid out ground floor area: Living room: A spacious, dual aspect room, with a wealth of character features, including a flagstone floor, oak beams, exposed Cotswold stone, and a large inglenook fireplace with a cosy wood burning stove. The room is furnished with a large corner sofa, which comfortably seats four, a large footstool, comfortable window seat, and a Smart TV; Dining room: Another lovely, character filled room, with a large, ornamental inglenook fireplace and original exposed oak beams, which contains a large dining table with seating for six. A fridge freezer is also located in this room; Kitchen: Accessed from the dining room, the kitchen contains an electric oven, four-ring electric hob, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, kettle and toaster. A door from the kitchen leads out to an enclosed courtyard garden, which catches the late afternoon sun. Located in the north Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold is one of the principal market towns in the region. The main feature of the town is the historic market square which used to play host to the annual sheep fairs where, at the height of the Cotswold wool industry, up to 20,000 sheep were sold at one time. The market square is steeped in history and has two features which date back to the medieval period. At one end of the square there is the medieval cross which was erected to urge traders to carry out fair business under the eyes of God, and at the far end stand the town stocks which are found in the shadows of the old elm tree. Originally known as Edwardstow or Stow St Edward after the town's patron saint Edward, the town's church is also named after him. The church is just 100 yards from the town square and is a lovely place for locals and tourists alike to get some peace from the bustling market square. The north door is guarded by two yew trees and is a focal point of the town. Stow has traditional narrow alleyways, or "tures" as they were once known, which wind their way through the centre of the town. It is these same alleyways that were once used to channel the sheep to the fair. Another point of interest in the town is the well in Well Lane which is now a Grade II Listed Building. As a result of the rather unique geology of the area, water held in the higher layers of the limestone bursts out of various fissures on the slopes and two do still work as wells now. Food & Drink Stow has numerous places to eat and drink, with a range of cuisines and prices to suit all tastes and budgets. The list below is a small sample of the range of options available: The Queens Head Inn (www.donnington-brewery.com/the_queens_head_stow_on_the_wold): The Queens Head is a traditional town pub, owned by the local Donnington brewery. Here locals mix with tourists who are unsurprisingly attracted into this lovely old pub. Good traditional pub food and ale, in a great atmosphere; The Sheep (www.thesheepstow.co.uk): A seasonal menu with pizzas being a major focus. There is a wood-fired oven in the restaurant, where you can watch your freshly made pizza cook; The Talbot: Laid back drinking, eating and coffees in a traditional meeting place for the town slap bang in the Square. Sofas, original paintings, rickety old tables and chairs, with staff who are under the threat of death if they are not friendly! White Hart (www.thewhitehartstow.com): A 'boutique' style Inn, which has recently been beautifully refurbished throughout. The Inn boasts two cosy bars, lots of open fires and an atmospheric dining room. Hearty food is served during the day, with finer dining in the evening. All food is sourced locally and prepared on the premises; The Bell (www.thebellatstow.com): The Bell at Stow is the perfect country pub. Behind the ivy-clad façade lies a charming, stylish interior with the warmest of welcomes. A favourite with the locals, The Bell is open all day every day offering everything from a pint of well-kept cask ale through to a delicious three-course supper. Friday evenings are legendary for the Champagne Happy Hour at 5pm - grab a seat if you can as the weekend gets off to the perfect start! Stow has a Tesco and a Co-op for regular food purchases and, for special treats, there is a traditional butcher's shop and a number of delicatessens specialising in local produce, including: Lambournes Butchers (www.lambournesbutchers.co.uk): A family owned, multi-award winning traditional butchers, renowned for locally-produced meat, poultry and game, sourced from hand-picked suppliers. Referring to the owner, the BBC's Adam Henson has observed that "what Bob doesn't know about sausages isn't worth knowing"; Cotswold Food Store and Café (www.cotswoldfoodstore.co.uk): The Cotswold Food Store and Café offers a huge variety of delicious local foods, ranging from locally sourced vegetables, meat, eggs and bread to charcuterie, hams and pates in its deli counter. The adjoining café offers freshly prepared meals by resident chef Sonya Kidney, along with home-made cakes, biscuits and light bites; Hamptons Fine Foods (www.hamptons-hampers.co.uk): Hamptons offer a wide range of quality foods to discerning customers. The shelves are packed with exclusive and delicious fine foods that one would not normally find in the mass outlets. A veritable Aladdin's cave. Hamptons specialise in gourmet hampers which can be collected from their shop or delivered direct.

Brook Cottage is one of the most idyllically situated properties in the Cotswolds, sitting on a quiet lane overlooking fields, with only the soothing sound of the babbling brook outside to break the silence. Blockley has numerous beautiful walks on its doorstep and is well located for exploring the many beautiful market towns and villages of the North Cotswolds, as well as further afield places, such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Blenheim Palace and Oxford. Important Customer Notice: - Special Events: Christmas, New Year and the Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival are Special Events, with bookings typically limited to weeks only from a specific start day If your dates don’t appear to fit, then please click Contact Host below to find out what options may exist for you!
Walking along Blockley Brook leads you to Brook Cottage’s front door, which opens into: Living room: A cosy, beautifully furnished room, with a stone mullion window with window seat, wooden beams, a large inglenook fireplace with a cosy wood burning stove and a flat-panel TV. The living room is also used for dining and it contains an extendable dining table, with seating for up to four people. The living room then leads into: Kitchen: For a small cottage, the beautifully decorated kitchen is very well equipped, including a cooker with hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and washer dryer. Returning to the living room, a narrow, steep staircase leads up to a small first floor hallway, off which is: Bedroom 2: A cosy bedroom, with exposed beams and brickwork, containing a double bed next to the stone mullion window, which looks out to fields and the brook below. The main bathroom is accessed via bedroom 1 and this contains a bath with handheld shower attachment, basin and toilet. Blockley is a popular village in the Cotswolds which is found within a triangle formed by three renowned market towns: Chipping Campden to the North, Moreton-in-Marsh to the South East and Stow-on-the-Wold to the South. Being close to these three towns has led to increased footfall in the village, bringing with it good quality pubs and a lovely village shop/café. As the village is away from main roads, it avoids the heavy tourist traffic and so visitors can get a real sense of rural life, enjoying the rolling countryside which falls within the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The peaceful Blockley Brook attracts tourists and locals as a quiet place to relax in the warmer months. This brook, together with the other brook in the village, played a part in Blockley's history as there were once 12 water mills which provided work in various industries over the centuries, including silk production and flour milling.

Broadway is a beautiful village in the North Cotswolds, steeped in history and surrounded by stunning countryside. The village gets its name from the wide street, or broad way, that runs through the centre which was once the main road from Worcester to London. This attractive High Street is bordered with chestnut trees and honey coloured stone cottages dating from the 16th century and is one of the most picturesque villages of the Cotswolds. The broad way is thought to be especially wide because at one time there used to be streams running each side of the main drive. These streams were eventually hidden in underground pipes where they would emerge at 'dipping' points, but sadly they are now almost completely invisible. The village has artistic links with famous dwellers including J.M. Barrie, Mary Anderson and William Morris, who were drawn to the tranquillity of Broadway. It was here that Morris and John Ruskin pioneered the idea of the Arts and Crafts Movement which made its home in the area and went on to be an international movement. One of the iconic features of the village is Broadway Tower which was built in the late 18th century by the Earl of Coventry. It is said that the tower was erected so that the Countess could see if her Cotswold estate was visible from Croome Court in Worcestershire, which it was. The folly stands some 1,024 feet above sea level, making it the second highest point in the Cotswolds after Cleeve Hill. In fact, on a clear day, visitors are able to see 14 counties from the top! William Morris was so taken by the tower that he went on to establish the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings in 1877. Food & Drink Broadway has a number of places to eat and drink, with a range of cuisines and prices to suit most tastes and budgets.

Chipping Norton, better known as "Chippy" by locals, is a well-known market town in the Cotswolds which has been runner up in the Great British High Street awards for small market town for the last two years. Once the site of a Norman castle, the town is the highest in Oxfordshire and has a number of notable buildings to visit. The Town Hall proudly marks the days when the town was a Borough. It was built in 1842 and used to host the poultry and butter markets on Wednesdays, as well as the Corn Exchange. It was also used for entertainment and auctions and lucky visitors may catch a glimpse of a bride and groom as the hall is licensed for weddings. A picturesque row of traditional Cotswold stone cottages can be found in the town which were once almshouses given to Chippy by puritan Henry Cornish. The almshouses are set back from the road and are entered through a grand archway which has elaborate finials and cresting. Another standout building is Bliss Mill. It dates back to the 1870s and was once used in the manufacturing of wool and tweed for cloth manufacturer William Bliss. The mill was designed to look like a country house, but has the large chimney at one end for which it is recognised. It is now a Grade II listed building and was converted into luxury apartments in the 1980s. Being a relatively small town, it comes as a surprise to many to find a theatre in Chipping Norton. The team put on an array of productions including theatre, music, comedy and the annual pantomime. As well as live performances, the theatre also screens a range of classic, art house and foreign language films. Food & Drink As one of the main market towns in the Cotswolds, Chipping Norton has a wide variety of places to eat and drink, catering for most tastes and budgets. The list below is a small sample, to give a flavour for the various options available: Wild Thyme Restaurant (www.wildthymerestaurant.co.uk): Offering exciting modern British food and relaxed friendly service, complemented by three stylish rooms, this is a special place to enjoy great food and wine with family and friends. The Chequers (www.chequers-pub.com): The Chequers was built in medieval times at the entrance to the market place and is thought to date back to the late 1500s as a pub, when it was identified by a sign of a blue anchor outside. The main bar is situated amongst four seating areas. In the absence of any electronic games machines, pool tables or juke boxes, the traditional pub styling of yesteryear is recalled. A blazing log fire in the winter creates a cosy atmosphere. There is also a separate restaurant area. Whistlers Café Bar & Restaurant (www.whistlersrestaurant.co.uk): The owners of Whistlers are passionate about food and passionate about entertaining. Open during the day as well as for evening meals, Whistlers has a range of breakfasts, through to lighter snacks and lunchtime treats, as well as a great range of hot drinks and cakes to help you while away the hours. Café Le Raj (www.cafeleraj.net): A contemporary Indian restaurant, where top quality ingredients and fragrant herbs and spices are used to create sumptuous dishes. Chipping Norton also has many food shops, ranging from small, family run places, to a Co-op and a Sainsbury's.

We voelden ons heel goed.

Minchinhampton is a very attractive, thriving hilltop town, situated on a tongue of high land between the Golden Valley and the Nailsworth Valley, 1.5 miles north east of Nailsworth. The town also sits on the eastern fringes of Minchinhampton Common, high above the valleys that were once prosperous with the production of cloth. The centre of Minchinhampton is a picture-postcard image of what people expect of a small Cotswold town, with a selection of nice shops and places to eat. The town is centred on its High Street and old Market Square, the main feature of which is the late 17th century Market House, supported on stone columns. The interesting Holy Trinity Church dates from the 12th century and has a truncated spire looking over the Market Square. The church was given to Caen's Abbaye aux Dames by William the Conqueror and then in 1415 passed to Syon Abbey, in whose hands it remained until the Dissolution. Minchinhampton Common is a large area of open grassland with spectacular views over the Stroud and Nailsworth valleys. The area is owned by National Trust and is an important archaeological landscape, with prehistoric field systems, burial mounds and the remains of a defensive earthwork, known as The Bulwarks. In the summer the Commons are grazed by local commoners' cattle. The area covers 635 acres and is renowned for its colourful array of wild flowers and butterflies. Food & Drink For a small market town, Minchinhampton is fortunate to be blessed with a number of good places to eat and drink: The Crown Inn (https://www.thecrown-minchinhampton.com/): Roaring fires, a restaurant serving up locally inspired flavours, and a cellar stocked full of craft ales, fine wines, and fizz - when it comes to Cotswold country pubs, The Crown Inn is the perfect place to meet, eat, and make great memories. The Ragged Cot (www.theraggedcot.co.uk): Perched high on the Cotswolds outside the ancient market town of Minchinhampton sits the Ragged Cot, a country inn getaway created for serious pleasure seekers. Born of a 17th century coaching house inn set beside six hundred acres of National Trust common land the Ragged Cot is a pretty special place with an intriguing history of highwaymen and pilferage. The proprietors of the Ragged Cot take pride in their professional approach to food and service, with the seasonal menu offering great British food sourced from local farmers and even their own vegetable garden. With dishes such as seared ox tongue with pickled red cabbage, pheasant with braised leeks and artichoke puree or just simply ham, eggs with triple cooked chips you will always find a dish to fit; The Kitchen (www.thekitchenminchinhampton.co.uk): Choose a seat by the beautiful bay window and watch for riders trotting by on horseback or perhaps the occasional herd of cows strolling down from the Common. Serving delicious breakfasts, morning and afternoon teas, and lunches, all the locally sourced food is prepared fresh daily; The Old Lodge, Minchinhampton Common (www.food-club.com/old-lodge.htm): The Old Lodge is beautifully located in the centre of Minchinhampton Common. With unrivalled views of the Cotswolds, this 400 year old hunting lodge is the perfect place to escape the rush. Enjoy quality, locally sourced food served in the restaurant, the bar area, one of the smaller dining rooms or al fresco in the spacious garden. The stunning restaurant accommodates parties of up to 85 people seated and has floor to ceiling windows that look directly onto Minchinhampton Common. Minchinhampton also has an excellent butcher's shop and an organic cheese shop: L Taylor & Sons (www.taylorsminchinhampton.com): For nearly a century L Taylor and Sons has been supplying the highest quality meat to discerning customers. The quality of the shop has been recognised with a Cotswold Life Butcher of the year award; Woefuldane Organic Dairy (www.woefuldanedairy.co.uk): All the products are made by hand in the farm dairy in time honoured ways. The unpasteurised cheeses change throughout the seasons as the milk varies depending on what the cows are eating.

    Ilona2019-10-29T00:00:00Z

    Zak2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • Daniel & Anna's Place is gewoon geweldig!

We zullen zeker terugkomen.

Honeysuckle Cottage is a beautiful grade II listed thatched cottage, located in the north-east of The Cotswolds, looking out over the village green in the peaceful little village of Sutton-under-Brailes. Important Customer Notice: - Special Events: Christmas, New Year and the Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival are Special Events, with bookings typically limited to weeks only from a specific start day If your dates don’t appear to fit, then please click Contact Host below to find out what options may exist for you!
The front door of Honeysuckle Cottage is accessed via the front garden, which overlooks the lovely village green. The front door opens diectly into the kitchen and the following rooms are on the ground floor: Living/dining room: Looking out over the village green, this room contains comfy seating for four, a flame effect fire, and a flatscreen TV with a DVD player. There is also a wooden dining table, with seating for four; Kitchen: A well presented galley style kitchen, which contains an electric oven, four ring electric hob, fridge with small freezer compartment, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster and a washing machine. There is also a breakfast bar, with two bar stools. Stairs lead up from the living room to the first floor landing, off which are the following rooms, all in the cosy eaves of the cottage: Bedroom 1: With views across the village green, this lovely room contains either two single beds or a super king size bed. There is a chest of drawers as well as hooks behind the door for hanging items; Bedroom 2: Also with views across the village green, this smaller room also contains either two single beds or a king size bed; Family bathroom: Contains a bath with handheld shower attachment, toilet and wash basin; Shower room: Contains a walk-in shower and a wash basin. French doors lead out from the living/dining room to the enclosed garden (please note that the neighbouring cottage has a right of way through the garden). The lovely garden is mostly laid to lawn and contains an outdoor table and four chairs, plus an additional two seater table and a swing seat. The cottage has one off-street parking space at the end of the front garden and further on-street parking is available directly outside the cottage.

  • Ons verblijf in Dove cottage was geweldig.

Bedden super comfortabel. Keuken was nuttig uitgerust.

We zouden absoluut hier weer verblijven.

    Brogey2019-07-03T00:00:00Z

Zeer vriendelijke communicatie. Check-in was eenvoudig!

Welcome to Alice Cottage, brought to you exclusively by Character Cottages, local specialists in stylish, Cotswold holiday rentals. Alice Cottage is set on a hillside, with views out over the rooftops of Blockley, to the woods and fields beyond. The village is a hidden gem, being set well away from major roads and is very peaceful and picturesque, yet it is large enough to have two pubs, a restaurant and a community owned village shop and café, as well as a historic Norman church. It is also the location where the Father Brown mystery series is filmed. Blockley is close to the popular Cotswold market towns of Moreton-in-Marsh, Chipping Camden and Stow-on-the-Wold, and many beautiful countryside walks are right on the doorstep. It is also well located for further afield destinations, such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford or Blenheim Palace. Important Customer Notice: - Special Events: Christmas, New Year and the Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival are Special Events, with bookings typically limited to weeks only from a specific start day If your dates don’t appear to fit, then please click Contact Host below to find out what options may exist for you!
Alice Cottage is one of a handful of cottages set on a small quiet lane, yet only moments from Blockley's historic high street. There is one shared parking space in front of the cottage and additional, free street parking is readily available. A path through the garden leads to the front door, which opens into the sunroom and the rest of the ground floor: Sunroom: South facing and looking out to the garden, with exposed stone walls and a clear roof, this is a lovely room to relax in, whatever the season. Contains a wooden table and two chairs; Living room/dining room/kitchen: The heart of this cosy cottage, the living room area contains comfy seating for three people, a wood burning stove and an LED HD Freesat TV, with DVD player. There is a fold away table, for formal dining. The kitchen area is very efficiently and practically arranged, and includes a 2-ring electric hob, electric oven, Smeg fridge/freezer, microwave, Miele washing machine/tumble dryer, toaster and kettle. There is also a radio with an iPod dock. Stairs lead up from the kitchen area to a small first floor landing, off which are the following rooms: Master bedroom: Contains a double bed and plenty of storage space. There is also a radio with an iPod dock; Bedroom 2: A small room, which contains a 75cm wide single bed and a bedside cabinet with drawers; Shower room: Although small, the bathroom has been well designed, to include a shower, small basin and toilet. Alice Cottage's small, enclosed garden is well proportioned with a raised terrace to take advantage of the lovely far reaching rural views and to provide a beautiful south facing outdoor seating area, with a table, wooden bench, two chairs and a charcoal BBQ.
Architecturally the village has quite a different character in comparison to the rest of the North Cotswolds as it has a more similar style to that of the villages in the Stroud valley, but here they have used a more golden stone. This design is reminiscent of wealthier times as the majority of the cottages were built during the 17th and 18th century, at the height of the industrial era. A popular attraction in Blockley is Mill Dene Garden which is a partner garden of the Royal Horticultural Society. With a misty grotto, stream and seats around the mill pond, this is a lovely place to while away the time looking out for the kingfishers whilst enjoying a cream tea.
  • Charmante plaats. Mooie voortuin. Prachtige stad. We vonden het fantastisch. Zou zeker terug gaan!

    Callie2019-09-02T00:00:00Z

The Cotswolds are characterised by attractive small towns and villages, built of the underlying Cotswold stone (a yellow oolitic limestone). In the Middle Ages the wool trade made the Cotswolds prosperous and some of this money was put into the building of churches, leaving the area with a number of large handsome Cotswold stone "wool churches". The area remains affluent, which has encouraged the establishment of many high quality pubs, restaurants and antique shops.

Chipping Campden is one of the main market towns in the North Cotswolds, built by medieval traders with wealth created from the wool trade. With many thatched cottages, this is one of the most picturesque towns in the region. A notable feature of the town is the Market Hall which was built in 1627. Originally thought to be used in the wool trade, the main function of the hall was actually to give shelter to local cheese, poultry and butter sellers. The High Street is relatively small, taking just five minutes to walk from one end to the other, and it has a number of well-regarded eateries ranging from tea houses to dining pubs and restaurants. This main street curves in a shallow arc which is flanked on both sides by terraces of ancient houses, each house having its own embellishments. This feature of the town is one of the reasons why, in 1970, the street was officially designated as a conservation area. Chipping Campden marks one end of the Cotswolds Way which is a 102 mile National Trail linking Chipping Campden to Bath. For the majority of the trail it follows the Cotswold escarpment which gives the walker fantastic views of the surrounding scenery. The Way passes through many traditional villages and close to historical sites including Sudeley Castle near Winchcombe and Hailes Abbey. The countryside along the Way is very diverse, ranging from wildflower meadows to beech woodlands, providing visitors with perfect examples of Britain's stunning landscape. Food & Drink Chipping Campden has numerous places to eat and drink, with a range of cuisines and prices to suit most tastes and budgets. The list below is a small sample of the range of options available: The Kings Hotel (www.kingscampden.co.uk): Modern British food with a contemporary twist. You will encounter mouth-watering choices like a starter of Duck Rillets with a Pea Panna Cotta & Pomegranate dressing, or main course of Braised Belly Pork & Fillet, Crispy Langoustine Tail, Roasted Apple, Celeriac Choucroute & Dauphinoise Potato. To finish, the dessert menu promises blissful indulgence with the likes of Caramel Banana Mousse, Pain D’epice & Coffee Soil. For a more informal option, relax in the friendly atmosphere of the stylishly refurbished Brasserie bar, serving morning coffee & brunch through to afternoon tea & dinner. Enjoy favourites such as Mussels in Garlic & White Wine, Home-made Aberdeen Angus Burger, Focaccia, Smoked Bacon & Tomato Relish with Fries; Cotswold House Hotel (www.cotswoldhouse.com): The kitchen team take their inspiration from the finest offerings of dedicated producers - whether it be wholesome crusty breads, locally-churned cheeses, home-reared meats, best Cornish fish, vegetables from the lush Vale of Evesham, or jams and preserves from small-scale artisan producers. The result? The very best of modern British cooking. Wonderful, simple food served at lunch and dinner in The Cotswold Grill or at dinner in The Dining Room at Cotswold House. On warm days, enjoy a drink, coffee, or lunch on the Pavilion Terrace tucked away in the hotel garden, its borders awash with summer colour. Sit under a shady umbrella and enjoy the peace and quiet from morning coffee to your early evening sun-downer; Michael’s Mediterranean Restaurant(www.michaelsmediterranean.co.uk): Specialising in Greek and modern Mediterranean cuisine, served in a relaxed, intimate setting. Wine and dine in relaxed surroundings, with the warm ambience of open fires and a friendly service. From a delightful array of Mezze dishes, fresh fish and seafood with seasonal daily specials to the renowned “Marathona” Fillet Steaks.
