About the location
Gargrave 4 miles; Malham 4 miles; Skipton 8 miles.
The picturesque Dales village of Airton is situated in beautiful Malhamdale amidst superb open limestone countryside. The village was known as Airtone in the Domesday Book, and was originally a Quaker village. There is still a Quaker meeting house, along with a squatter's cottage on the village green and an old mill on the River Aire. Airton boasts a popular farm shop and tea room at Town End Farm, which is renowned for selling excellent local produce. Airton is a great starting point for walkers, with a route along the Pennine Way into Malhamdale, or you may wish to walk from Gargrave to Malham, via Kirkby Malham, where you will find an historic parish church and village inn. More energetic walkers should explore Calton over Calton Moor to Weets Top and Gordale, or eastwards towards Hetton. Nearby Malham is a magnet for visitors to the Dales who come to see Malham Cove, one of Britain's most impressive natural features. The Cove consists of a natural cavern or 'amphitheatre' of limestone rock stretching 75 metres in height and 300 metres around the perimeter. A steep walk up man-made steps is rewarded with a superb view across moors and limestone pavements to Malham Tarn - the Pennines' highest lake. Airton is a wonderful central location with Skipton, Settle and Grassington all within easy reach of this Yorkshire Dales village.
“The flat is very clean, well equipped, and comfortable for our family of five. The location is ideal for walking the Pennine Way. The flat has an excellent view of the river Aire. We were pleasantly surprised and think the star rating should be more. Excellent overall.”

“The property was in an ideal position and so quiet and peaceful. We had a wonderful 5 nights there and would certainly go back there again.”

There's always someone to call on if you need to, I live about five minutes away.
There's a key safe beside the front door so guests may arrive at their convenience.
Andere dingen waar je op moet letten
This is a first floor apartment, so families with young children need to be aware that there's a staircase from the landing down to the front door.
Mobile phone coverage is poor in the area, through you may find a signal further up the village and elsewhere. I now have wifi in the apartment, so you can keep in touch using the internet or apps on your smart phone.
Free wifi is also available at Airton's farm shop cafe and local pubs.
Guests are guaranteed just one parking space in the mill's parking area. If you bring a second or third vehicle, please park it by the village green or near the bridge.
Each apartment has a strict allowance of parking for one car, so if you bring more, please find space for them just outside the private car park, either by the village green or by the bridge. Of course it's ok to bring the extra cars in for a short time to load/unload your bags.
Everything else is common sense and/or good manners, but it needs to be said, so please have a quick read:
For the enjoyment of other residents, please do not smoke in the property. If you smoke outside, please dispose of your ends responsibly. Norma is our neighbour, and she takes great care of the gardens, parking area and paths, and I'd like to keep her happy.
Sorry, no pets.
I recently had a new bathroom fitted, including a new floor. We did our best to make it waterproof, but this is never 100% possible in a flat with wooden floors, so please try not to splash too much water on the floor... I really don't want to replace the floor again, or make serious problems with the ceilings of the flat below. Many thanks.
The mill's sewerage system cannot come with anything other than toilet paper and the usual, so please do not put wet wipes, or any other sanitary items down the loo.
Please do your washing up before departure. If you want to leave the dishwasher running when you go, that's fine, I will empty it when it has finished. Do scrape plates well before they go in the machine.
Please take out your rubbish before you go, general waste goes in the green bins in the car park. There are labelled blue bins for recycling paper, and a separate bin for other recyclables (glass/plastic bottles, cans, foil, etc), which all go in together. Recycle if possible.
Sorry for all that, thank you for reading.
