Casa Ajonoz is a traditional Spanish cortijo that has been converted to a spacious three bedded holiday home alongside the owners home. The space occupied by our guests is completely self-contained and private. We keep the pool clean and the many lovely potted plants and the gardens watered but other than that are only there if you need us or would like to share a glass of wine or a beer. Former guests range from couples who enjoy the area and want some relaxation as well as availing themselves of the interesting cities and towns that are easily accessible to visit as well as families who love the secure space and pool area.

The ground floor area for guests takes up the front of the property. It is secure and private and has lockable gates. The swimming pool and patio area with the built in barbecue and dining pergola is for the sole use of guests - the owners only ensure that it is kept clean and is wonderful to swim in.
There is a shaded seating area at the front with cushioned chairs for relaxation. At night spotlights and wall-lights create a romantic environment where it possible to listen to cicadas and admire the stars and the light on the large palms and paradise trees.

We are usually on-site or at the end of a mobile when needed to help with any questions or queries. A welcome pack in the house gives all the details for contacting us if there are problems as well as information on local dining, shopping, waste and recycling, We provide most of the everyday things you might need - wine on arrival, washing liquid, dishwasher tablets, waste bags, hand soap, toilet cleaner, toilet rolls, and other cleaning essentials. In addition there are citronella candles for outside dining and barbecue coals, firelighters and matches - you can turn up and just enjoy!

This is a vibrant and fairly affluent agricultural community. Therefore there is some noticeable noise from tractors and other vehicles at times during the day. Some weekends the locals hunt (on foot) and gunshot may be heard. Because the house is set in a river valley, and crops round about are irrigated, the landscape looks quite lush most of the time.
Ours is a non smoking, pet free house but ashtrays are provided in the outside space.
Everything is kept well maintained and has recently been completely redecorated and with some new bathroom and shower fittings, oven and fridge freezer. We appreciate guests who have respect for the fixtures, fittings and the environment and will take care of everything.
We took early retirement in 2012 - Philip from the civil service, European Fishery Protection and Hilary from Marketing, Fundraising and PR in the Charity Sector. We agreed to buy Casa Ajonoz in May 2014 and eventually moved to Spain in November the same year. We spent the winter of 2014/15 converting (with the help of a local architect and builder) the dilapidated farmhouse for us to live in and to upgrade the characterful, but rather tired adjoining casita into a comfortable and stylish holiday home for letting. We chose inland Spain rather than the more popular tourist areas on the coast as we wished to live somewhere more traditionally Spanish. We haven't been disappointed. Despite our limited Spanish, we have found the locals very friendly, helpful, skillful and reliable. And of course there is the weather! With well over 300 warm, sunny days on average in Andalucia we have enjoyed living outside more than inside!
The area is very interesting. As well as the constant changing of crops in the fields round about there's a rich variety of birds, flowers and other wildlife to amaze and inform on a daily basis. The house is well located with easy access to shops, larger towns, historical and beautiful cities and areas of natural beauty. We've enjoyed the short time we have had so far to explore these and have accumulated a number of guide books and maps that are available to our guests to use.
We spend a fair amount of time travelling both in Europe, the USA and the UK to visit our three children, their partners and our seven grandchildren. We are pretty certain you will enjoy the house, the traditional area, the local food and the many festivals and ferias as much as we do.
