The apartment is part of a hallmark building called ‘Ateliers Zomerdijkstraat’, that was specifically designed to house artists in 1934. It is a pivotal work in Dutch architecture of the early thirties, and the first application of steel construction in modern dwellings. The architects were members of "Groep 32", strongly inspired by the work of Le Corbusier. They combined a functionalist architecture with artistic elements. Audrey Hepburn used to have dance lessons in this building and renowned dutch writer Jan Wolkers was one of the artists who used to live here. For more information on the building, see (URL HIDDEN)
