I am inviting you to experience my lovely caravan (and part-time home), while I work away overseas! Whether you are looking for a base to delve into the history at Bamburgh or Alnwick Castle, explore the stunning nature of the North East coastline and Northumberland national park, or to enjoy the on site facilities at Whitley Bay Holiday Park for endless family fun and entertainment, this renovated accommodation provides a self contained retreat, with all amenities and homely touches.

De ruimte
The caravan is a 2 bedroom, 2007 Atlas Nevada. The master bedroom is newly renovated with a new bed and mattress. There is a wardrobe, cupboard and overbed storage. In the twin room there are two single beds, a wardrobe and cupboard. The bathroom has a good shower, with a base tray large enough for small children to take a bath in. There is a vanity area and it has recently been redecorated. The kitchen hosts all the necessary appliances, including kettle, toaster, microwave, gas stove and cooker, and under the counter fridge with freezer draw. There is cutlery, crockery and glassware enough for 6 people, plus optional plastic sets for children. As I stay in the caravan part-time, there are most basics such as tea bag, sugar, salt, pepper, oil and many herbs and spices. There is pots and pans, oven trays and even cake tins and cookie cutters in case you feel the urge to make sweet treats while you are here! There are separate rubbish and recycling bins for ease too.

In the living room area, there is a sofa big enough for 6 people, which also houses the pull-out bed. I would not recommend that two adults use the pull out bed as it is smaller than a full sized double and may be a bit close for comfort! Within the living area there is also the entertainment hub, hosting a TV with built in Freeview and DVD player. There is a selection of DVD for children and adults, as well as an array of books. There are some games and jigsaw puzzles for keeping everyone entertained whilst inside. There will be at least one yoga mat in the caravan too, and the living space is large enough to comfortably complete a yoga class in!

Linen is provided and beds will be made up for your arrival (except the duvet and pillows for the pull-out bed which will be in sealed storage bags within the sofa). Under the current circumstances I am not providing towels, so please bring your own along. Tea towels, toilet rolls, soap and washing up products are all provided. You literally just need to turn up with food and you are ready to go! I hope that you will appreciate that as this is a place where I spend a lot of time, there are many touches which make the place that much more homely and practical than a caravan rented through a park. Whilst there is no wifi included in the caravan itself, there is free wifi in all the complex buildings, plus on site wifi packages available to purchase from reception. Park passes are not included in the price, but are also available to purchase from reception. The reason for this is that many people chose to use the accommodation as a base to explore the local area, rather than choosing to use the on site facilities. Please note, there is an additional charge for the on site Launderette, but a airier and iron is available in the caravan. Shampoo and toiletries are not provided (except soap for handwashing). Pets are allowed.

I am part of the way through renovating the whole caravan, including trying to make it as energy efficient and eco-friendly as possible. This has included laying new carpet and underlay in the bedroom, enforcing the single glazed windows with sealant and glazing film and repurposing materials where possible. I have tried to avoid using plastic where it's realistic to do so and have made eco-friendly swaps such as bamboo and biodegradable cleaning products, using water-based paint on the walls and doors, using thermal curtains and having energy efficient oil filled electric heaters for each bedroom. It is an ongoing process with some major changes yet to come, I would appreciate feedback and suggestions that guests have.

Toegang voor gasten
Guests can use the whole of the caravan. The outside grassy areas are all public, but guests are free to use them as they wish. Any outdoor furniture should be removed when not in use.

*Please note the on site facilities will be closed between 15th November 2020 and February 2021 (exact date to be confirmed), but the park will remain open.*

On site there is an indoor swimming pool, arcades, restaurant, bar, entertainment, children's play area, launderette and shop.

Only a few minutes' walk from the caravan park, there is St. Mary's lighthouse and island, which is cut off from the mainland at high tide. The island is famous for the wildlife that call it home through the seasons, including seals in early summer. The island can be walked around, but visits to the Lighthouse must be booked in advance. Near by the lighthouse there is a nature reserve with the same name, where many migratory birds can be seen. Along the coastline near to the island there are many great opportunities for exploring rock pools! Carry on walking south and you will be on Longsands, a simply stunning Blue Flag award winning beach and it is easy to see why! Yoga classes also take place on the beach (Shantibee).

Whitley lodge is around a 15minute walk, with a popular pub serving food, Tesco express, Chinese, pizza shop, India takeaway, newsagents and more. This is also where the local Whitley Bay Golf Club is based.

Monkseaton hosts Churchill playing fields with boules greens, running track (North Shields Poly), tennis courts and a children's playground, just next to the Metro station. The other side of the station are a row of restaurants and local independent shops and pubs, including the Monkseaton Arms who host a great quiz every Wednesday!

Whitley Bay town centre is around 1.8 miles away, with pubs, restaurants, bars, cafes, shops, supermarkets, Park View Shopping Centre, great charity shops, a local independent cinema (JamJar, voted the best small business in the UK 2020) and a selection of other local, independent shops. On the Whitley Bay seafront stands the impressive, newly renovated dome of the Spanish City, housing many eateries and bars. There are nearby arcades, cafes, fish and chip shops and award winning ice cream at Di Meo's. The Whitley Bay playhouse shows tribute acts, family shows, cabaret and panto.

Tynemouth is famous for its markets, especially the Christmas market. The 'Mouth of the Tyne' festival takes place there every year (apart from 2020!) with headliners such as Keane and the Lighthouse Family. The wonderful Green Ginger shopping arcade hosts an array of local, independent shops selling arts and crafts, handmade and artisan goods. Tynemouth Metro station attracts visitors every weekend when it hosts an array of stalls selling artisan goods and bric-a-brac in the beautiful Victorian structure. There is also a plastic free shop (Buy the Kilo) and lovely cafe (Square Roots) based in the tiny Sidings centre, inside the Metro station. If water sports are more your thing, there are at least two surf schools in Tynemouth (Longsands surf and Tynemouth surf), a Kayaking centre (Cullercoats bike kayak) based in Cullercoats and paddle boarding specialists in North Shields (Boardskillz). Just set back from Longsands Beach is Tynemouth Park, with a boating lake and children's playground. Slightly in front of this is Surf Café who host an array of great events and beside is the Tynemouth aquarium.

North Shields (5.4 miles) is another major hub for shopping and transport links, with a main bus stop and metro station in the town centre. You can also jump on the ferry from North Shields, over to South Shields and enjoy the Ocean Beach Pleasure Park there (as well as quasar, restaurants and more). North Shields boasts many pubs and cafes, plus a wide range of shops including a local greengrocers (South Gosforth Fruiterers) many charity shops, supermarkets (Iceland, Heron, Asda, Co-op), a library and the Beacon hopping Centre. Outside of the town centre, there is the 13th Century Fish Quay, with many historical buildings and views out to sea. There are a number of independent restaurants and few cafes close to the water there. From here, you can walk along the coastline towards Tynemouth Priory and Castle too.

Segendunm (9 miles), meaning 'strong fort' is the most excavated along Hadrian's wall and stood for around 300 years. Now a visitors centre is there for a good family day out.

In the opposite direction, Blyth is only a 20minute bus journey, with numerous cafes and shops to visit, including major supermarkets and the Keel Row Shopping Centre.

11.9 miles away is the quaint fishing port of Newbiggin-by-Sea with some cafes, restaurants, takeaways and local independent shops.

This is my part-time home when I am back in the UK from working overseas, therefore it is likely that I will be out of the country while you are visiting, but I will always be available at the end of the phone. My family live less than 3 miles away and will be able to help out in any urgent situations.
