Over deze ruimte

Our home is a converted barn with huge exposed oak beams in Hawkswick - a small, hidden gem in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Listen to the river and owls at night, then in the morning take the footpath over the fell to Kettlewell.

De ruimte

The converted barn (semi-detached - the farmhouse beside it is not ours!) is our home where we live and we are delighted to share it with our guests - we have 3 spare bedrooms. Our village has stunning scenery and a lack of tourists. Perfect for walking and cycling and a great base for exploring the unique, unspoiled countryside of the dales or the cultural and historic wealth of Yorkshire.

Toegang voor gasten

An en-suite bedroom; 2 extra bedrooms with a private bathroom available for family or friends, one with double bed, the other with twin beds; a warm, farmhouse-style kitchen with breakfast provided (it will either be cereals and toast put out for you or a cooked breakfast, dependent on whether or not we're around) and other meals available on request; a comfortable living room with log stove, music and TV; Wi-Fi internet; a lovely garden to sit in. Be warned - we do have some stone steps and some creaky floorboards. If you like things to be ultra-quiet you may need some earplugs, although we do tiptoe about the place when we have guests.

Interactie met gasten

As much as we are able and they would like.

Andere dingen waar je op moet letten

Great for country lovers and those who want to get away from it all - far from the madding crowd.

We had such a lovely, and far too short, stay at this beautiful house in such an incredible location. Jonathan was the perfect host and also very accommodating of our bikes. Breakfast including homemade granola was an added bonus. We can recommend the walk in to Kettlewell where you can grab a nice bite to eat for lunch before braving the hill again!

Our group of 5 middle aged men decided to do the Yorkshire Three Peaks some months ago and what we needed was some accommodation that allowed us to spread our wings and for us not be hemmed in. From the listing description Jonathan & Sonia's place seemed a perfect fit. What we didn't know was just how perfect! We arrived on a Friday evening and were met by Sonia and shown around the stunning 18th Century barn that was their family home and that would be made to feel like our home for the next 2 nights. Set in beautiful gardens with a small-holding feel in the middle of a secluded river valley (30 metres from the river) with about 15 picture postcard houses in the village, i'd challenge you to find a more typical Yorkshire Dales setting. We were allowed to have a bbq and drinks in the garden on Friday evening and Sonia & Jonathan joined us and passed on plenty of local knowledge & lots more interesting tales. We weren't noisy but were told that noise wasn't a problem - just to let our hair down and enjoy ourselves - we certainly did. We literally had the run of the house and it had everything we could have wanted although we we to find out after doing the three peaks that a house that had any steps was one step too many In terms of going the extra mile, we mentioned that we'd like to watch the Argentina v England rugby at 8.15pm on the Saturday but might not be back; when we returned it had been 'live paused' on their living room tv and when we got back at 9pm they gave over our their lounge to us to watch the game. We awoke as stiff as boards on Sunday morning to a home cooked full english accompanied by home made bread and homemade preserves (including a vintage strawberry jam ). A more idyllic and welcoming place to stay you could not wish to find that's suitable for exploring the Dales, Grassington, Skipton and further afield and i'd highly recommend experiencing the 5 star hospitality offered by Jonathan & Sonia and making their home your base. You won't be disappointed.

The house and location are both stunningly beautiful. Jonathan and Sonia were excellent hosts, thoughtful and providing everything we needed for our stay. Breakfast was also excellent, a wide choice of options, our children particularly liked the delicious bread, with home-made marmade.

A very warm welcome which carried on throughout the whole stay. Our hosts definitely went the extra mile, including providing facilities to clean our car windscreens before leaving.

We had a fantastic time staying with Jonathan & Sonia. The setting was perfect and their house is a lovely place either for relaxing in or setting out on walks across the Dales. The breakfast was delicious, and we also got introduced to nettle tea! I would highly recommend staying here if you enjoy beautiful countryside and great hospitality.

My wife Sonia and I live in a converted barn in a delightful, small village in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. I teach English as a foreign language and we provide English immersion courses, with young people and adults coming from all over the world to stay with us. If you are coming from abroad and fancy an English immersion course we can also provide that. We are also members of HOST UK and like to give hospitality to international students staying in English universities.

Sonia is a Care Worker and works in a care home that specialises in dementia care. One day it would be good to provide an airbnb break for someone with a partner or parent with dementia - I have also worked as a Social Therapist on a dementia unit, so we are both experienced in that area.

We both love gardening and cooking with our organic vegetables. We can provide a range of breakfasts, from porridge to grapefruit and pancakes to the traditional full English - all cooked in our Aga. We also like to bake bread and make our own marmalade and jams. We keep bees, so there is also our honey on offer - and for the brave you can sample our home-made wine.

We like reading, watching the BBC and films, walking and travelling. Both our children are now in their twenties and living in London, but do come back up north from time to time - you might even be lucky enough to meet them (they're great fun). For cyclists we are right beside the 2014 Tour de France route. For walkers we are near both the Pennine Way and the Dales Way. There are lots of lovely local walks - go along the river to the pub at Arncliffe or over the fell to the lovely village of Kettlewell (host to the world-famous Scarecrow Festival). Within an hour's drive of where we live there are many places to visit. The idyllic Dales village of Grassington is a 10 minute drive away and our local market town of Skipton (judged by the Sunday Times in 2014 as the best place to live in Britain) is only 14 miles away. If you want to travel by train we can collect you from Skipton station. We are members of HHA (Historic Houses Association) and Newby Hall and Ripley Castle are nearby - as are Bolton Abbey and Fountains Abbey.

So if you love nature and want some peace, tranquillity, fresh air and wonderful countryside then do visit us. We'd be delighted to meet you.
