The tiny house that is shown here is our latest addition to Stony Brook Campground. Tiny homes are fun and are becoming ever more popular especially for the growing number of people who are committed to reducing their material needs. If you are one of the folks who wish to reduce your living space, come and try it! And even for those who don’t, our tiny home is an affordable lodging option for those wanting to get away for some time without breaking their budget.

De ruimte
Our tiny home provides a comfortable living area which offers seating for as many as four and has a 32” smart TV.
Three people can enjoy our small but pleasant eating space in our efficient kitchen which is equipped with a counter top two burner electric plate and convection oven, toaster and microwave as well as a coffee maker. There is also an apartment sized refrigerator.

A screened in porch off the kitchen offers “mud room” space for snow boots, snow shoes and skis in the winter and expanded space for relaxing and visiting in the warm weather months.

The bedroom loft provides a comfortable full size mattress as well as end tables and there is additional lower space under the living area loft that can provide either an additional sleeping area, storage space or play area for our little guests.

The bathroom, which is just off the kitchen, has a shower, sink, toilet and both shelf storage and hanging clothes space.

The campground in which the tiny home is located provides 40 acres of both landscaped and wooded areas. There is a commercial laundry on site as well as bathrooms and showers year round. We also have a year round variety store that sells many household and personal items as well as food and groceries. We have a large variety of beer and wine and also offer a comfortable and welcoming dining area where you can enjoy prepared food off a large menu of breakfast, lunch and dinner choices. There is a lovely outdoor patio with a gas fire pit that can be enjoyed year round and tables and chairs are available for outside dining during the warmer months.

In the summer months guests can enjoy our recreation hall with numerous games including video and board games as well as a pool table. There is mini-golf, shuffle board and horse shoes as well as a play ground. Gatherings for large groups can be enjoyed even in inclement weather under our two pavilions, one behind the rec hall or in an additional second pavilion that has a stove, refrigerator and counter space.

We offer canoe and kayak rentals as well as affordable shuttle service to numerous area lakes and rivers.
We have a beautiful, solar heated pool that overlooks the Androscoggin river valley as well as the Western Mountain foothills.

Our latest attraction that was added in the fall of 2019 is our mineral and gem sluice where one can purchase pails of material from area mineral and gem mines and sluice for valuable gems which are guaranteed to be found in every bucket! For those people who would like to experience mining themselves, we can arrange trips with a knowledgeable guide to one of our local mines. We provide at a small cost shovels, picks and pails to accommodate your mining experience.

The western Maine Mountains in the Bethel area are a Mecca for sports lovers in all seasons. For those who enjoy winter sports, the northeast’s premier ski area, Sunday River, is just six miles from Stony Brook Recreation. There are two additional downhill ski areas less than 20 minutes away: Black Mountain Ski Area in Rumford and Mt. Abram Ski Resort in Greenwood. There are also miles of well groomed cross country skiing trails in three Nordic skiing establishments within the area: The Bethel Inn offers 35 kilometers of groomed trails; Rumford’s Black Mountain grooms 17 kilometers of trails; and Carter’s X-C Center in Bethel provides 55 kilometers. There is access from our property to miles of snowmobile trails and snowmobile rentals are available in nearby Gorham N.H. Finally, local guide services provide dog sledding experiences from several hours to several days or weeks.

The spring, summer and fall seasons provide for great biking, hiking and canoeing/kayaking experiences. Sunday River Mountain Bike Park and Mt. Abram Mountain offer trails of lift-serviced terrain that stretches out for over 20 miles. There are miles of hiking trails in the area as well as opportunities to canoe or kayak our area lakes and rivers. Stony Brook Recreation rents canoes and kayaks and offers affordable shuttle service.

I am a newly retired health care administrator. My husband Bruce and I moved to Maine nearly 40 years ago where we raised our three children. We developed the 50 site campground over the past 35 years and have joined the Airbnb family in late 2015. We have three properties we have listed with Airbnb, one of which is our home. The others have been developed as rentals. We love to travel ourselves and look forward to doing more in our retirement. While our home is in the country, we love spending time in cities, my favorite of which is NYC. But we also love Washington D.C., Boston, San Francisco, Montreal, London, Glasgow, Rome and Barcelona. We look forward to using the Airbnb site to find affordable lodging around the world.
