Set alone in a paddock with breathtaking views of the valley and the moor is our Shepherd’s hut.
Totally off grid (no electric) you will experience a great nights sleep by the wood stove in peace and quiet with the occasional sound of the wildlife.
Just a few yards away is a toilet & shower room and an area with a kettle, toaster, mini fridge & books for your enjoyment.
Should you need to charge your phone there are also sockets in this room, but better still, come and recharge yourself!

De ruimte
In the 19th and early 20th centuries, the Shepherd’s life was often solitary and harsh, particularly during lambing time, when he would have to attend closely to his flock day and night during the cold months of winter and early spring.

The shepherd’s hut was introduced so that he could live in the pasture for extended periods of time and was a haven of warmth and comparative comfort. Such huts were widely used throughout England and Wales and followed a similar basic design with a curved corrugated iron roof and stable door, small, high windows and cast iron wheels.

The interior was usually simply furnished and was warmed by a small cast iron stove. Most huts were built by small agricultural engineering firms (whose cast iron name-plates are now collectable items in their own right). Some huts were constructed on the farm out of locally sourced materials, but all were built using blacksmith-made forged components such as chains, axles and drawbars.

Toegang voor gasten
Plenty of walking across fields with public footpaths, please remember to keep dogs on leads around livestock!
Lovely local pub just a short stroll down the road.

Andere dingen waar je op moet letten
There is no electricity to the shepherd’s hut itself but a battery powered lantern which provides plenty of light.
The lane up to our farm is quite rough so take care and drive steady in lower motors.
Bed linen is provided but you will need to bring your own towels.
Please do not book in the winter months if you can’t light a fire- we’re not always around to do this for you.
Bring your wellies or boots- fields get wet when it rains!
Please note this is a working farm- dogs are welcome but must be under control at all times.

The Beehive Inn is our village pub just a 10 minute walk.
The town of Buxton a 15 minute drive is famous for its bottled water.
Bakewell and it’s livestock markets and outdoor markets are held on a Monday and there are plenty of local shops and tea rooms there too.

A farmer and a nurse, I love meeting new people and showing them what I know about life on the farm and the animals. For me, it’s great to share where we live and what we do with people who don’t get to the countryside very often.
Tijdens je verblijf
We’re not always around at check in and out but I will say hello at some point during your stay.
Please keep us informed of your check in time and if this unexpectedly changes.
