Your dream cabin awaits you, right on the shores of pristine Wabikon Lake. During your stay, you’ll be in one of only four structures situated on the shoreline, surrounded by protected forests. The brand-new Duè was completed in 2019, replacing the original rustic fishing cabins constructed in 1947. Whether you want to pack your trip full of adventure or just curl up in a cozy nook to get lost in a book or the nature surrounding you, Piacenza’s on Wabikon will become your go-to spot.

De ruimte
Piacenza’s On Wabikon’s two cabins (UNO & DUE) are nestled on the shore of Wabikon Lake, amongst a fishing resort that has been in my family since 1947. A rarity, both cabins are feet from the lake, offering endless views and seclusion. A sister lake - Riley Lake - is reachable by a quick boat/kayak trip (there’s a small creek that connects the two lakes). Both lakes are fully-protected and remain undeveloped outside of our two cabins and the adjacent fishing resort – truly rare and refreshing in this part of the state. The Chequamegon-Nicolet Forest and Wabikon State Natural Area will envelop you in their splendor, offering endless exploration of water and land. The Wabikon Forest Plot is one of only six in the world (!) being studied by the Smithsonian Institute for its diverse natural growth.

The fishing resort has attracted many generations of nature-seekers and anglers who keep coming back year after year. We’re proud to share that history and nostalgia with our guests. We invite you to step back a few decades in time and into the history of our family and Wisconsin’s famed Northwoods, all while experiencing the comforts of today (full kitchen, Wi-Fi, heating, a/c, etc.). Completed in 2019, the cabins were crafted using local materials like cedar, oak, pine, and stone, sourced by a celebrated local builder. Wabikon and Riley Lakes and the protected forests they’re surrounded by are ripe for exploration and ready to help you make lasting memories. Enjoy:

Fishing – of course, there are plenty of trophy muskie, pike, bass and panfish to be caught in Wabikon and its connected, spring-fed sibling, Riley Lake.
Paddling – Wabikon and Riley lakes cater to anglers and nature-seekers, meaning you won’t need to worry about dealing with big boat wakes and jet skis or water skiers.
Boating – There’s plenty of exploring to be had by boat, and if you want to get the tube or water skis out for the family, Lake Lucerne, Silver Lake and more are just down the road.
Hiking – there are primitive trails within walking distance and plenty of well-maintained local trials (including some waterfalls) within a short drive
Cycling – newly-constructed mountain bike trails are just across the road at Otter Springs Recreation Area or explore Wisconsin’s gravel roads for miles and miles.
Playing pool and darts in DUE’s game room!
Plus, in the winter: snowshoeing, ice fishing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and plenty more!

“DUÈ” – OUR TWO-BEDROOM CABIN is your luxury-yet-rustic lakeside escape. The open floorplan cabin spans 864 feet and large windows bring in views of Wabikon Lake and make the space feel even bigger. Open up all the windows and let the ceiling fans keep the lake breeze flowing through the space. The interior is thoughtfully decorated in items from the Northwoods and furnished with items from our personal collection.

A fully appointed kitchen will make you feel like a professional chef and your meals can be taken in at the bar-height kitchen island, the corner-situated dining table, or one of two private decks/patios. Curl up in one of my hand-knit blankets and sink into the comfy couch to read a book or simply take in the views.

Just below the cabin, accessible via a stone staircase, is a partially-covered lakeside patio – perfect for watching storms roll in, sipping your morning coffee, or grilling your catch of the day.

GAME-ROOM is complete with a beautiful Brunswick pool table, dart board and relaxing area.

Ideal for two couples or a small family, a vintage cabinet is stocked with plenty of board games and books, some of which dive into the history of the area and the flora & fauna you may encounter.

Two bedrooms: one lakeside with a queen bed and the other includes two twin beds. Everything you need for a relaxing getaway and nothing more.

We rent two cabins: UNO (sleeps 1-2) and DUÈ (sleeps 2-4). The cabins are 20-feet apart for privacy or can be rented together for larger family gatherings. While unplugging and unwinding is certainly encouraged, high-speed Wi-Fi and cell signal boosters are in both cabins.

BOATING: The public boat landing is less than ¼ mile down the road. There is plenty of room to park your trailer and vehicle near the cabin. You may dock your boat at Johnnie’s Resort as part of your reservation accommodations. Johnnie’s has boats/motors to rent. Bring your own kayak or ask us about availability.

SOME HISTORY: This special piece of lakeshore is our family legacy, established in 1947 by my parents, John and June Aschenbrenner. Their lease included 9 tiny cabins, 5 outhouses, a bar and caretaker’s shack, a small generator, hand-pump well, and a couple gas lights. They closed after deer hunting season in late November and re-opened May 1 which was “opening day” for fishing back then.

My brother Johnnie and I grew up on the lake and attended Laona schools. After our parents’ deaths, Johnnie and his wife, Cheryl, ran the business making vast improvements. We recently split the land so they could keep the business and we could rebuild two cabins for our family retreat. We carefully rebuilt the cabins in the footprint of 3 old cabins built in the 1920’s.

Waar je zult verblijven

Laona, Wisconsin, Verenigde Staten

Far from the craziness of busy tourist areas, we are nestled in a quiet corner of northeastern Wisconsin. We encourage you to decompress and enjoy a stress-free visit. Our only neighbors include my brother’s fishing resort (Johnnie’s Resort) with two cabins and the quintessential Northwoods bar. Stop in for a pizza, adult beverages (if you’re feeling daring, try Johnnie’s signature ‘kraut bomb’), stay for the patio and outdoor bonfire pit.

Hello! Welcome to our family cabins on Wabikon Lake, in beautiful Forest County, Wisconsin! This special place has been in my family since 1947!! On this land, my parents started Johnnie's Resort in 1947 with nine cabins, 5 outhouses and a small bar/grocery store! Fishermen & fishewomen, hunters, campers and travelers have left stories over these last 70+ years. Stories we will gladly share with you! Over the years, cabins were made larger, indoor plumbing (a miracle) was installed, electrical power was extended a few miles to reach us! As my parents aged, my brother and his wife Chery vastly improved the grounds and buildings to establish a wonderful clientele and guests returning for 3-4 generations. Only recently, my brother and I split the land so he could keep Johnnie's going and I could rebuild cabins for our family. So the family has inn-keeping in it's blood. First we built ourselves a cabin, then we carefully razed 3 old cabins to rebuild 2 in the exact footprints... thereby maintaining the "on the water" location of the cabins; less than 10' from the shoreline. I welcome you to this special place to unwind, relax, take in the fishing, kayaking, bonfires and hike or bike the Nicolet National Forest. We offer two cabins; one studio and one two-bedroom. Together they sleep up to 9. The cabins are 20' from each other; each has it's own lakeside deck. The studio is fully wheel-chair accessible. The two-bedroom requires one step up. Please NOTE: Our cabins are listed individually on AirBnb!! So you can rent either one of the cabins of both!!! Just look for Piacenza's on Wabikon Lake in Laona, Wisconsin! Welcome and contact me with any questions!!
