Beautiful wooded setting surrounded by 170 acres of private land and two miles of Buffalo Creek to enjoy. One comfortable 12" queen in the loft and a fold out double bed love seat on the main floor. Extra guests may pitch tents for $10/night/person. Pets welcome at $10/pet/night - see pet policy.

De ruimte
You just won't find this kind of seclusion in most state parks or private venues. There are only two other cabins (about 1/2 mile away), and our home (1/2 mile away), on the 170 acre property that is entirely surrounded by Buffalo Creek. Ginseng House is a handcrafted, secluded tiny house built from solid walnut, oak, maple, and poplar hardwoods cut and milled by us on our farm. Quiet, relaxing, private, inspiring. These are some words that describe your unique retreat on Redbud Hill Farm. You don't have to be an artist to rent the cabin, but we guarantee you will leave with your creative batteries recharged and a renewed sense of focus and inspiration. This non-smoking cabin sits 1/2 mile from our home through the woods, perched on Pendleton Point, on the edge of a 40 acre field that borders Buffalo Creek. A new 400 watt solar system with 24 volt battery bank provides solid electricity for lights and small appliances. Very clean outhouse.

If you like to camp, without the hassle and hardship, you will enjoy having a tidy cabin, two comfortable beds, indoor kitchen, a full deck with picnic table, and a setting all to yourself. There is no refrigerator, so you will need to bring a cooler for your food. There is a wonderful old-time country store 1 mile away where you can purchase ice, food, and other supplies. We supply all basic cookware, propane, and utensils. You can have a campfire, hike the trails, look for arrowheads in the fields - (yes, they are there!), birdwatch - kingfishers, ducks, geese, turkeys, bluebirds, even a nesting pair of bald eagles that live on our adjacent property one mile away, canoe, kayak, or swim Buffalo Creek - depending on water levels, or enjoy some smallmouth bass fishing.

Ginseng House has a loft with a comfortable new 12" queen mattress. There is also a fold out love seat on the main floor that sleeps two adults. (PLEASE NOTE: Access to the loft requires climbing a set of ladder stairs that require agility and strength to climb. If you have trouble with heights, balance, or navigating ladders we request that you stay off of the ladder and sleep on the main floor since there is an inherent risk of injury that you assume by climbing into the loft. Only do so if you are very comfortable with your climbing skills. Especially, do not climb into the loft if you have been drinking alcohol or are on medication of any kind).

The one room house is insulated, clean and comfortable. It has beautiful white ash flooring, and ceiling, and black walnut walls, milled from logs on our sawmill. There is a nice wooden kitchen table and chairs in front of a picture window for you to catch sight of some deer, turkeys, fox, or even a bald eagle. The kitchen is inside the cabin, with a sink, supplies, propane stovetop and counter space.

A homemade solar bucket shower is a highlight! A black bucket can be placed in the sun to provide 5 gallons of water for a couple of warm showers per filling. Enjoy a private, off-grid, bucket shower experience, surrounded by trees and sunshine!

This is a semi-rustic, secluded experience. The outhouse is about 30 feet from the cabin. We provide toilet paper, but you will need to bring your own hand sanitizer.and hand sanitizer. We will provide well water for cooking, showers, and cleaning. You will need to bring bottled water for drinking.

PETS ARE WELCOME for $10/night - Please see our pet policy under "Other things to note."

Toegang voor gasten
No smoking permitted inside the building.

Some amenities include a campfire pit with cooking grate (please bring cast iron cookware), porch, propane stove for cooking, basic dishes and cooking supplies. If you need something, we can get it for you. Our farm is called "Redbud Hill Farm" because of the beautiful redbuds that bloom around our property during the spring, which we make into delicious jelly! We invite you to hike the trails on the property through woods and fields. You can also enjoy our 2 mile private access to Buffalo Creek for fishing, swimming, canoeing, or skipping stones. We have a lot of wildlife to observe, including bald eagles, blue herons, whitetail deer, wild turkeys, grouse, rabbits, foxes, and birds of all kinds. You will hear coyotes yipping at night, but they are very reclusive and are not a threat to humans.

Hunting privileges do not come with the cabin rental. Also, no discharge of firearms without permission.

EVENTS - The space is exclusively meant for the lodging and enjoyment of our renters. No events or groups of guests not listed on the rental are permitted.

Andere dingen waar je op moet letten
COVID19 VIRUS -

Because of the unique nature of our properties - isolated tiny homes with minimal human contact, we believe we can continue to provide safe and enjoyable stays for our guests. However in order to operate responsibly we have studied the CDC guidelines and will need to take the following extra precautions to assure the safety of our guests and to avoid the spread of COVID. That being said, we request that anyone who has been exposed and/or showing symptoms please cancel their reservation as soon as possible.

1. All tiny homes will be left vacant for a minimum of 48 hours before a new guest arrives.
2. Guests will be asked to either walk or drive their own vehicles (high clearance AWD) to their tiny home. We can transport luggage in our ATV as long as the guest loads and unloads the ATV.
3. Guests will need to bring all of their own bedding. We will provide mattresses and freshly washed mattress covers. Guests should bring their own pillows, sheets, blankets, and/or sleeping bags.
4. We will thoroughly clean each tiny house according to CDC guidelines as prescribed by Airbnb. See this link for details - https://www.airbnb.com/resources/hosting-homes/a/cleaning-guidelines-to-help-prevent-the-spread-of-covid-19-163
5. We will maintain safe social distancing with our guests as prescribed by the CDC.

We apologize for the inconvenience but we want to maintain a safe experience for all parties and believe that these precautions will ensure that COVID is not transmitted.

BUFFALO CREEK - SWIM AT YOUR OWN RISK - The Homeowner is not responsible for any accidents, injuries or illness that occurs while on the premises or its facilities. Buffalo Creek completely surrounds the property and there is a canoe available for guest use. Guests are completely responsible for any accidents or incidents related to the creek or the use of the available canoe. Water can be fun, but it can also be dangerous. Be safe at all times. Guests assume all liability for any interaction with the creek, and while a canoe is available for use by our guests, this is to be used strictly at your own risk. Coast guard approved life jackets are available and should be worn at all times by anyone using the canoe.

PET POLICY - We ask for an extra fee of $10/night/pet, payable when you arrive.

Pets are great. We have pets. We love pets. If your pet is not mean or harmful to other pets and/or people then he/she is welcome on the farm. However some of our guests have pet dander allergies (not to mention a dislike for pet smells, fleas, and ticks), so we prefer to have pets stay on the porch or outside the cabin. Pets may stay inside the cabin, especially in cold weather, under the following conditions - 1. They should be very well behaved - no gnawing or scratching the floors or furniture. 2. They should be pre-treated for fleas and ticks. 3. Guests must do a thorough job cleaning up any hair, footprints, or other messes. 4. Of course, the dog should be house trained. 5. No pets on the bed or sofa. You may bring bedding for your pet, or you are welcome to use one of our portable pet carriers at no charge.

ALSO, You will be living in the woods with wild animals, such as raccoons, opossums, foxes, etc., that your pet may encounter. Your pet may also feel the call of the wild and run off (though we have not lost any yet). It will be your responsibility to take care of your pet and make sure it is safe. Our pets know our property and run free, so we don't tie them up. Bringing your pet with you is one of the perks of staying with us, but you will need to do whatever it takes to keep your pet under control and safe. Some people bring pet carriers, leashes, or run lines. Some let there pets run free.

Wellsburg, West Virginia, Verenigde Staten

We are located on Redbud Hill Farm, one mile from Bethany, WV, home to Bethany College. The small town has a throw-back general store that has been owned for generations. They have everything you would expect in a well-stocked general store. The college has tennis courts, a swimming pool, raquetball court, fitness center, and library, which are available to the public. Oglebay Park is a 20 minute drive. Wheeling is 30 minutes. Downtown Pittsburgh is a one hour drive. Day trips can include a Moundsville Prison Tour (45 minutes), zip lining at GrandVue Park (45 minute drive), downtown Pittsburgh (60 minutes). Great historic dining (wings are their specialty), at Drover's Inn (15 minutes). The Station Grill in downtown Wellsburg also has a nice ambiance and great food. The immediate local area isn't brimming with culture, though Bethany College (1 mile) and West Liberty University (5 miles) often offer unique musical, athletic, and arts events. Your main purpose for coming here will most likely be to enjoy the quiet solitude of the cabin, hiking the peaceful woods, and maybe an outing on Buffalo Creek.

Jo Ellen and Jim have three sons, four daughters, two daughter-in laws, and four grandchildren. We built our home and the three tiny houses that we currently have for rent. Jo Ellen is a great gardener and will be happy to share fruits and vegetables that are in season. She enjoys greeting guests with her warm smile and welcoming them to the cabin. Jim owns a sawmill and built our cabins from trees on our property. He is also an art professor and likes to produce maple syrup and sculptures out of metal and wood.

Tijdens je verblijf
We have raised seven children. Two are still at home. The older ones have ventured all over the world, sometimes living for extended periods in countries like Spain, Mexico, Cyprus, Morocco, Jordan, France, Dominican Republic, Ireland, Japan, Costa Rica, South Korea, and Bahrain. We like to meet interesting, adventurous people who love life, the arts, traveling, and generally being nice people. This is a place for quiet reflection and artistic pursuits, not a party shack to make a lot of noise and mess. We will be happy to get you situated and make your stay as pleasant as possible. Our daughter Rosalie is a professional illustrator, and some of her work can be found around the cabin, as well as works from Jim and other artists. This quote from Thoreau's 'Walden' is a good way to begin thinking about your time here:

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms.”
