This review reminds me that we are fortunate that we continually manage to please so many of our wonderful guests and that I cannot possibly please all the people all of the time; it really is our own home, warts and all, that we are inviting you into and not a 5 star country hotel. I love meeting people and seeing them enjoy Mull, but it saddens me when no mention is made at the time if you are unhappy.
Just to help future guests, I want to clear up a few points that were addressed here, firstly, we do not have a barnyard, it is a grass lawn with apple and plum trees and our hens roam this garden during daylight hours and are locked in their coop behind the garage overnight, and they supply the guests with delicious fresh eggs daily; most guests, like myself, find them entertaining to watch. There is also a pen at the rear of the garden where our quail live, and also give us eggs; quite a delicacy! No farm or barn in sight!
We have solid oak flooring and light carpets, so yes it is noted in our listing that we request that guests remove shoes on entering, this is quite a common practice in homes across the world. Folk usually work out it is easier if they put their luggage in the adjoining inner hall then take off their footwear, as yes, the vestibule with the bench and shoe rack isn’t huge.
It also states in my listing that we serve a light breakfast; but there is always plenty of different cereals and locally made biscuits available if you feel the need to top up the breakfast on offer. Vanitha you had second helpings of the sweetcorn fritters, yet no one else staying took up my offer of extras as they said they were full; and you told me you wished to opt out of breakfast the 2nd morning as you wanted a lie in, and chose to help yourselves to bowls of cereals and hot beverages.
As to the bathroom cleanliness, your room was served by an ensuite, the bathroom is for another bedroom and not for general use by guests occupying the ensuite rooms such as yourself. I do not go in and clean up and clear away their stuff whilst they are in residence as I feel it is disrespectful to do so, especially for such short stays.
Im sorry you didn’t expect that we would have other guests, but it is high season and Mull is very popular, next time choose Spring or Autumn when Mull is still beautiful but far less folk around.
Oh and just whilst I’m on explaining things can I point out we have really good wifi reception here and that Vodaphone is the best mobile network for Salen.
