We are very disappointed that Alexander had such a poor experience as our guest. I can only apologise that the (covered) litter tray was used by one of our cats while he was here and that he encountered this before we were able to clean it out (we do point out in the listing that we have cats). I do, however, contest his further criticisms.
The bed: Alexander reports finding it uncomfortable. In private feedback he expands on this by describing it as short (it’s a standard double mattress) and complains that the bed has a slatted base (as opposed to a sprung divan, presumably), also saying they “missed the appearance of fresh cotton” (the bedding was, as always, freshly laundered and 100% cotton). He found the pillows uncomfortable (having since looked at the under pillows, they are a little tired and we will replace them). Alexander is the only guest we have hosted who has complained about the comfort of the bed. It might be noted that Alexander is a man of significant stature, perhaps six feet six inches in height and sturdily built. He may have been more comfortable in a king size bed but ours is listed as a double.
He was also unhappy that the towels were new and indeed they were. We will take the precaution of pre washing new towels in future to avoid this being an issue.
With regard to the bathroom being two (not three) stories up from the ground floor room we offer, we draw attention to this in the listing, and also to the fact that there is a toilet and hand basin on the same floor and that this is exclusively for the use of guests during their visit. Alexander was shown this on arrival. We make a practice of keeping a lamp on in the hallway to make visits to the toilet in the night easier; we don’t, however, keep the lights on in the stairwell, assuming guests would for preference use the one on the same floor. Alexander seems to have chosen not to do this and consequently struggled to find the light switches.
In a final point of private feedback Alexander states that our “shouting woke me up”. I would like to assure him that in our bedroom two stories above we were not shouting and even if we were I doubt he would have heard us. If he was woken by our neighbours the other side of one of the walls of the room we offer on Airbnb I can only apologise but this is something outside of our control.
We wish Alexander better luck in the future finding accommodation to suit his exacting standards.
